Darrell Cobb, a member of Thomaston Baptist Church and a maintenance manager for Republic Services, passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 53 on August 2, 2025.
His wife, Andre Kaeo Cobb, and two sons, Cody Wayne Cobb and Caleb Dwayne Cobb, survive him.
Darrell Cobb grew up with a love for sports and family.
As a boy, he played football and threw baseballs down the hallway of his grandparents’ home, where his competitive spirit and toughness began to shine.
On the football field, he was fearless, running hard and never backing down from a challenge.
But beyond his athletic grit, Darrell was known for his kindness and deep love for his family. He cherished every member, and his faith in God was the foundation of his life.
Whether on the field or at home, Darrell’s strength, warmth, and devotion left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
His legacy lives on in the memories of his toughness, his gentle heart, and the love he shared so freely.
Darrell Cobb Suffered a Heart Attack While Watching His Home Burn Down
Darrell Cobb had just finished mowing his lawn on what seemed like an ordinary day.
After wheeling the mower under the carport, he went inside to take a shower. But moments later, his wife, Andre, smelled smoke.
Andre rushed to Darrell, who grabbed a fire extinguisher while she called 9-1-1.
The lawnmower had caught fire, then the carport, and then their home. As flames consumed their house, Darrell and Andre stood together, watching helplessly as years of memories turned to ash.
The couple had built a life in Demopolis, Alabama. Darrell was the maintenance manager at Republic Services, while Andre worked in the Marengo County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
They raised two sons, Cody and Caleb.
Caleb, a former standout athlete, played four years for the Demopolis Tigers, graduating in 2024. Darrell was a fixture at those games, cheering not just for his son but for the entire team.

Furthermore, Darrell and Andre clung to each other.
Then, in an unimaginable twist, Darrell turned to a friend and said, “I think I’m going to pass out.” Seconds later, he collapsed into his friend’s arms.
Andre desperately performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but it was too late. Darrell had died of a heart attack watching everything he and Andre had built disappear.
Sadly, Andre must plan her husband’s funeral while grieving the loss of their home. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Visitation will be held at Providence Baptist Church on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 9:00 AM until the 11:00 AM service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In one cruel afternoon, Andre lost her home and the love of her life.
The community mourns with her, remembering Darrell as a devoted father, husband, and friend, taken too soon in a moment of unbearable heartbreak.
Rest In Peace, Darrell Cobb.
A GoFundMe Fundraiser Has Been Created on Behalf of Andre Cobb
A heartbreaking tragedy has struck Linden, Alabama, leaving one family in urgent need of support.
Traci Stein has organized a GoFundMe fundraiser on behalf of Andre Cobb, a devoted friend, mother, and public servant, after she lost both her husband and her home in a devastating house fire.
Andre is now left to navigate this unimaginable loss with her two sons, Cody and Caleb. The fire not only destroyed their home but also took away their sense of security.
Andre, who is known for her kindness and dedication to helping others, now finds herself in need of the community’s support.
Andre is one of the sweetest people you could ever meet. And she and her son’s have suffered an unimaginable loss. It is going to be so hard for them to move forward after this tragedy. But my hope is that if her story is shared enough times, that the money raised will at least give Andre and her boys time to grieve before they have to start worrying about how they can afford to start over. So please, as a favor to me, will you please share this post? And also, please pray for Andre, Cody, and Caleb.
