John Moran, a beloved former Centennial High School football star and family man, recently passed away after a courageous battle with severe skin cancer, leaving his community deeply saddened.

Former standout player John Moran, a graduate of the class of 1987, was one of the most celebrated football talents to emerge from Centennial High School.
Widely regarded as one of the best players to come out of the school, he earned prestigious honors including All-City, All-Conference, and All-State recognition.
His talent earned him a spot in the All-State football game after graduation, a highlight that capped off an impressive high school career.
That success opened doors for John at the collegiate level.
He received a football scholarship to Colorado State University (CSU), where he played as part of the program during the 1980s while also earning his degree.
His dedication on the field and in the classroom reflected the same passion that had impressed everyone back in high school.
After college, John settled into family life in Pueblo, Colorado. He built a loving home with his wife, Erica Porch Moran, and together they raised two beautiful children, a son and a daughter.
Friends and family often described him as a devoted husband and father who cherished his role in their lives.
The news of John’s death was shared by his former teacher and head football coach at Centennial High School, Tom Brockman, who coached for 32 years and remembered John vividly.
In a heartfelt message, Coach Brockman wrote:
“Another really sad day for Centennial football. Earlier today I was informed that John Moran passed away fighting courageously a severe case of skin cancer. John graduated in 1987 & was one of the best football players to come out of Centennial HS. He earned All-City, All-Conference & All-State recognition besides being selected to play in the All-State football game after graduation (picture included). He earned a football scholarship to CSU & played up there plus earning his degree. After graduation he settled down & helped raise a beautiful family with his lovely wife Erica. He was so young & had so much to look forward to. Over the last few years we have had way too many football players passing away so early in their lives. RIP, my good man. Coach Brockman.”

Coach Brockman had known John since his playing days and was always struck by his dedication and passion for the game.
