The Bedford and Sharon communities are mourning the loss of Peter Gabriel, a beloved educator, coach, and family man, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the age of 78.
His passing comes just six weeks after the death of his wife and soulmate, Julia Roberts Gabriel, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Their enduring love story now finds its next chapter in eternity, as they are reunited once more.
Peter Gabriel Was An Outstanding Athlete During His Youth
Born June 10, 1947, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, Peter Gabriel was the eldest of three children of Peter A. and Anna (Malenky) Gabriel.
From a young age, he demonstrated a strong work ethic and passion for life, qualities that would define his journey.
Peter was a standout athlete in his youth, playing Little League baseball and high school football.
Unfortunately, multiple concussions during his sophomore year forced him to walk away from the game, but his determination never faltered.
Graduating from Sharon High School in 1965, Peter supported his education by working at a service station and at Westinghouse.
He eventually earned a teaching degree from Slippery Rock University and completed a master’s degree, along with 45 additional hours of continuing education.
Peter Gabriel’s Life Was Devoted To Education And Service
Peter Gabriel began his teaching career in Hubbard, Ohio, where he also met the love of his life, Julia.
The couple married on August 1, 1970, and built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and service.
He later joined Girard High School, where he spent 35 years as a history teacher, leaving a profound impact on generations of students and fellow educators.
But Peter’s contributions didn’t stop at the classroom door.
He was an inspiring coach, guiding football, girls’ basketball, softball, and volleyball teams, and also taught summer school.
Moreover, Peter found his greatest joy in his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored.
Whether he was fishing, sharing stories, or cheering them on at events, Peter was always present, always loving.
“To Peter, nothing mattered more than being there for the people he loved.”
