Richard Edward Munson, a beloved figure and former quarterback of the Holy Savior High School football team, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at the age of 83.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Geri Claudet, and their beloved children, Allison Munson Cook and John Richard Munson, along with several grandchildren. His passing marks the end of a life filled with accomplishments, love, and a wonderful spirit.
Rick Munson was born in Houma, Louisiana, on August 1, 1941. He was raised in Matthews, Louisiana, on the South Coast Plantation, where his father worked as a sugar chemist.
Growing up alongside his siblings Katharine Munson Smith and Clyde Francis Munson, Rick developed a passion for sports early on.
His natural talent was visible in football, tennis, and golf.
As a Holy Savior High School quarterback, Rick showcased his leadership and skill on the field.
His dedication to sports continued throughout his life; he was an avid tennis player and golfer who enjoyed the camaraderie of his loyal golf buddies: Jim Crane, Dr. Loren Scott, Bill Hyde, Curtis Baham, and Dr. Henry Manning.
These friendships represented his character and his joy in sharing experiences with others.

After marrying his high school sweetheart Geri Claudet on August 22, 1963, Rick began a new chapter in Germany as a second lieutenant in the Army Chemical Corps.
His time there included attending a nuclear weapons school in Oberammergau, where he excelled academically by placing first in his class.
This achievement led to an invitation to teach future cadets, remembering his intelligence and dedication.

Rick’s academic journey continued at Louisiana State University (LSU), where he earned degrees in Chemistry and an MBA.
When he was 39 years old, his career took a big shift, and he developed a patented process for filtering completion fluid on offshore oil rigs.
This innovation is now utilized worldwide, showcasing Rick’s creativity and problem-solving skills.
Rick was not only an accomplished professional but also a devoted family man. He loved his children unconditionally; they were his pride and joy.
His daughter, Allison Munson Cook, has made her mark as a former Clinical Research Assistant in Pediatric Infectious Disease at LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport.
Rick’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Elizabeth Chapman Cook, William Clayton Joseph Cook, Jessica May Munson, Jackson Richard Munson, and Mitchel John Munson.
He was described as a brilliant man with a great sense of humor and simple wants, the values established by the Sisters at Holy Savior in Lockport.
His recitation of the Our Father was noted as particularly beautiful, reflecting his deep faith and commitment to living a meaningful life.
Rick passed away at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, surrounded by love and memories that will last a lifetime.
On February 21st, a Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life.
The visitation will be from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m., followed by a eulogy 1:30 and Mass at 2:00 p.m.
His legacy is of kindness, intellect, and continuous support for those around him.
