It has been several months since LSU Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy left this world. But he continues to live on in the memories of his teammates, friends, and family.

The 24-year-old collegiate football player passed away four months after he had been involved in a serious car accident that killed a 78-year-old man.

The accident had also affected his chances of playing in the NFL. Several reports suggested that the young athlete may have taken his own life.

Back then, his lawyer asked everyone to respect the family’s privacy as they mourned this heartbreaking loss.

Since his passing, Kyren Lacy’s father, Kenny Lacy, took to social media to share a heartfelt message. The heartbroken father encouraged parents to start talking to their children from an early age.

Kenny also advised making sure they feel confident and comfortable sharing their feelings. He wrote on Facebook, emphasizing that mental health is real, often invisible, and should never be ignored.

“Don’t be cool with ‘I’m all right’ when you know deep down something isn’t right.”

The young athlete’s father revealed how deeply the passing of his beloved son had affected the family.

“This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow, but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through,” Kenny said.

He acknowledged that the pain will never fully go away. “This will never get easier, but we’ll learn to live with it,” he added.

“Losing Kyren at such a young age has been incredibly difficult,” and Kenny’s words show how deep the family’s grief is.

Kyren Lacy Grew Up In Louisiana With His Two Brothers

Kyren Lacy was originally from Thibodaux, Louisiana. His parents are Kenny and Kandace Faye Washington.

Kyren also has two younger brothers, Jayden and Liam. Not much is known about them, but they were likely close. The family of five was very close and celebrated holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving together.

Moreover, his father, Kenny, is the head trainer at BST Academy. He offers basketball, baseball, and fitness training.

On the other hand, his mother, Washington, is a singer, DJ, songwriter, performer, and professional school counselor. She also does community service and supported Kyren’s career very much.

Both parents of the late athlete are active on social media. They often shared pride in their children and also the awareness of mental health.

Washington once wrote about growing up as a teen mom, earning two college degrees, and raising Kyren, saying God guided her.

"Look at God! Listen I don't encourage teen pregnancy lol but as a teen mom I did my thang!! Graduated high school plus two college degrees all while juggling being a mom! Kyren and I literally grew up together! I made lots of mistakes along the way but God was always in control! I'm patting myself on the back with this one!!"
-Washington wrote on Facebook

Kenny shared a post for Kyren’s 2024 graduation, saying, “I’m proud of you, dude. #KeepGoing #NextChapter Kyren Lacy.”

Reports based on one of the Instagram reels shared by the late athlete’s mother suggest his parents are divorced. Also, in her Facebook, Washington has stated that she is single.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Kyren Lacy died on April 12, 2025, in Houston, just two days before a grand jury hearing about his December 2024 car accident.
  • Earlier that day, he had argued with a family member and fired a gun into the ground.
  • Police chased his car for several miles, which crashed, and Lacy was later found dead in the car, apparently by su-cide before the crash.
