Christy Lynn Young, a former softball player, passed away peacefully at the age of 50 on December 21, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
She was happiest when she was creating, nurturing, and spending time with the people she loved.
Christy Lynn Young lived a life filled with simple, meaningful pleasures.
She found her happiness in the quiet moments spent doing what she loved. She was a woman of the outdoors, and her deepest peace was found in her home garden.
Similarly, she loved the feel of the earth, taking pride in planting, tending, and watching things grow with her own hands.
Her life was rooted in appreciation for nature and simple acts of creation. She enjoyed crafting, turning simple materials into something beautiful and useful.
Many knew her on the softball field, where her joy for the game was as clear as the summer sky.
She was a beautiful soul.

Remembering Christy Lynn Young: A Legacy of Family and Simple Joys
Christy Lynn Young, the daughter of the late Charles Pate Sr. and Faye Rose Pate, was born on March 1, 1975, in Wayne County.
She passed away peacefully at the age of 50 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love of her family.
Christy’s heart was always rooted in family and home.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love for her family was fierce, unwavering, and her defining legacy. Her greatest pride and joy were her daughters and her cherished granddaughters.
She is survived by her loving mother, Faye Rose Pate; her daughters, Michele Mathias (Daniel), Jamee Bovard (Orion), Kimberlyn Kearney (Lindsey), and MaeLinda (Emiley Villanuva); and the adored granddaughters who were the light of her life, Addi Bovard, Alicen Brown, and Olivia Jackson.
Likewise, she leaves behind her brother, Charles Pate Jr. (Lisa); niece, Brittney Williams (Jamie); nephew, Trey Pate (Kelly); great-nieces, Hattie Williams, Mayven Williams, and Savannah Pate; along with a host of other beloved relatives and friends who were blessed to know her.
Christy’s spirit was of kindness, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. She found peace and joy in nature, and her gentle, loving presence touched countless lives.
Rev. Christian Powell will officiate a graveside service to celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro. The family will greet friends and loved ones immediately following the service.
Christy will be profoundly missed, but her love remains a guiding light for her family.
She will be forever remembered for her devotion, her quiet strength, and the beautiful, enduring bond she created with those she held dear.
