A beloved son and brother, Kobee Sherman, took his last breath battling bone cancer on November 5, 2025, at the young age of 19.
Born on April 4, 2006, Kobee Sherman played basketball at the Viborg-Hurley boys basketball team. However, his senior season ended with a diagnosis of osteosarcoma in his left knee in March 2023.
Kobee Sherman is survived by his parents, Jason and Leslie, and two elder brothers, Brodee and Gradee, both of whom played high school basketball.
It was on March 24, 2025, that Kobee and his father, Jason, went for an MRI of his knee, thinking it would be just a sports injury that would require surgery and allow him to return in time to finish his senior year.
However, five days later, their world turned upside down when Kobee was diagnosed with bone cancer, and it had spread.
Despite the diagnosis, he sought a silver lining even in the challenging situation. He woke up every day and decided to be happy.
Even after his diagnosis, he became an inspiration, organizing the Midwest Miracles Classic to support other pediatric cancer families, demonstrating the community’s strong support through fundraisers and his own positive attitude.
Likewise, Kobee also did substitute teaching when possible and coached the junior high boys in some tournaments. He continued to amaze everyone with his optimistic attitude.
Later, Kobee had graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Administration from Southeast Technical College in August 2025.
Throughout the journey, Jason, Kobee’s father, occasionally provided updates about his health via Facebook.

He shared an appreciation post for the overwhelming support they got after Kobee’s diagnosis, writing:
I would like to start by again thanking all of you for your continued thoughts, prayers and support!
On May 21, 2024, Jason shared an emotional post on Kobee’s high school graduation while he was battling cancer.
Despite the struggles, Jason said he is proud of Kobee, writing:
I am not sure how we went from kindergarten graduation to high school graduation so fast! Although your senior year looked a lot different then we could have ever imagined, you have taken this fight with strength, courage and faith, we are so proud of you!
Jason
Likewise, he also expressed his gratitude for the flood of support and prayers for Kobee.
Jason wrote, “First off this first picture with these kids who don’t even know Kobee personally, praying over him, oh this makes my heart so full! There is so much good in this world, we just have to take the time to look for it!“
On August 13, 2025, Jason updated about Kobee’s health, writing:
Kobee has been facing some challenges of back pain and not being able to wear his prosthetic. They have found some new spots that are causing these challenges. We continue to lean on our faith and Pray, Wait and Trust as we continue on this journey! Keep Praying for Kobee!
On September 5, 2025, Jason gave updates about Kobee’s growing challenges, writing:
Kobee continues to battle cancer with the odds against him, but by faith he continues to fight on! Challenges continue to come as he is currently on oxygen, having issues with fluid and having back pain. These things are all preventing him from doing the things he would like to do.
Following Kobee’s demise, Jason looked for a glimmer of hope in the midst of hardship, sharing, “Our hearts are breaking but the heavens are rejoicing to have you enter God’s loving arms!“
Thus far, the details surrounding Kobee’s funeral and memorial services have yet to be published.
During this challenging phase, we pray for the strength of Kobee’s parents, brothers, friends, and extended family members.
Rest In Heavenly Peace, Kobee Sherman!
