John Lynskey has spent 42 years at the Christopher Columbus High School as a teacher, coach, and administrator.

The history of the CCHS is incomplete without him.

John Lynskey has been a defining presence at Christopher Columbus High School for over four decades. He shaped generations of students as an educator, coach, and leader.

He graduated from Columbus in 1978 and returned to teach in the history department in 1984. Simultaneously, he also coached football and track.

He taught courses on the Vietnam War, U.S. History, and World War II with his unique and engaging style for 30 years. Later, he was named Assistant Principal in 2014 and served for seven years.

John’s dedication always extended far beyond any single office. He has served in campus ministry and became a member of the Development Department.

It was an honor and a pleasure to play a role in the reunion of the CCHS 2014 State Finalist Team at last week’s alumni tailgate. They were not the most talented squad we’ve had, but they played together and left everything on the field.

Columbus High School’s Rich Football History Comes Alive John Lynsky

John Lynsky has been the living memory of Christopher Columbus High School for over four decades.

His years unravel like a scroll after teaching, coaching, and mentoring since 1984.

Columbus is built on unbreakable bonds forged through shared experience, and the connections are almost unbelievable.

Lynsky began his career teaching Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal as a freshman and recalled their recognizable intensity.

Cristobal’s energy burned with the heat of a supernova and didn’t have an off switch. Meanwhile, Mirabal was a rabid pitbull.

Coach Lynskey, thank you for sharing your love of history, your love of coaching, & your love of Columbus with me. It is because of you that I chose to become a history teacher. Forever thankful & indebted my brother. We are brothers by CHOICE! I will leave the lights on & the front door open to my home. The 🦆 are waiting for you.

Moreover, Fernando Mendoza, the offensive lineman, was the smoldering volcano, stoic and polite, but erupting with unbridled passion on game day.

Lynsky expressed that the same passionate winning spirit is seen in the new generation.

The Columbus alumni represent the best of the school and the community for him.

Today, he serves as the ambassador of Alumni Affairs at Columbus High School and Big House Museum Historian.

From humble beginnings to Heisman Trophy winners, we are Columbus.
Buenos Tiempos and Adelante, boys.
