On February 8, 2025, the tragic story of Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, an 11-year-old sixth grader from Gainesville, Texas, came to a heartbreaking conclusion when she died by suicide after bearing extreme bullying at school.

Jocelynn was born in Gainesville, TX on June 17, 2013 to Ernesto Rojo and Marbella Carranza. She was raised along with her other six siblings.

Jocelynn, known for her pleasant personality and active involvement in sports and extracurricular activities, was a beloved student at Gainesville Intermediate School.

She loved dancing, singing, and playing the French horn. She also enjoyed swimming, doing cartwheels, and participating in sports, bringing joy to everyone around her with her cheerful spirit.

However, beneath her cheerful appearance was a horrible struggle against bullying resulting from her family’s immigration status.

Classmates reportedly harassed Jocelynn by threatening to report her family to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), telling her she would be left alone if her parents were deported.

Despite the severity of the bullying, which included mocking her family’s situation, Jocelynn’s mother, Marbella Carranza, was unaware of her daughter’s suffering until it was too late.

Her mother, Marbella, shared,

I waited a whole week for a miracle that my daughter would be well, but unfortunately nothing could be done. My daughter will always live for me, and I will always love her.

This devastating discovery shows the necessity of better interaction between schools and families regarding when it comes to bullying incidents.

The bullying became so bad that Jocelynn was consulting with a school counselor multiple times each week.

However, her family was never informed about the ongoing harassment.

Jocelynn attempted suicide at home on February 3 after suffering from months of emotional torture.

She was taken to a critical care facility in Dallas but passed away from her injuries five days later.

After Jocelynn Rojo Carranza’s Death, Her Family Seeks Answers About Her Emotional Struggles

In response to this tragedy, Marbella Carranza has called for an investigation into the cases surrounding her daughter’s death and the school’s handling of the bullying reports.

The Gainesville police are actively investigating the incident as well. This case highlights a critical issue within schools: the need for effective anti-bullying policies and support systems that protect vulnerable students.

Her family has expressed their grief publicly while also seeking justice for their daughter.

They created GoFundMe pages during Jocelynn’s hospitalization to help cover medical expenses and share their story with the world.

In an act of friendship, Jocelynn’s friends at school prepared a small gesture to honor her memory by writingWe love you” on cardboard, reminding everyone that she was loved and missed.

Following the tragic death of Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, social media platforms and parent communities are ablaze with outrage over the school’s alleged negligence and the actions of the bullies, with many expressing anger and demanding justice.

One person commented on Facebook,

“This is absolutely sad that this baby took her own life due to bullying that’s bullying needs to stop . They need to start charging the parents of these children that are bullying first and foremost bring it to their attention and if it doesn’t stop start charging the parents for harassment, mental abuse.. pain and suffering.”

One furious individual urged the family to take legal action, writing,

‘Sue the school for failure to protect this child, and charge the kids involved with bullying this poor girl. Let’s see how they handle it when they get bullied in prison. We all know the mom and dad of the bully will deny it all and protect their “baby”
