Garrett Getts Whitlock, who was born on June 11, 1996, is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Whitlock went to the Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn, Georgia, where his amateur career started.

His amateur career isn’t something he would like to remember, as he was not selected as a high school prospect during the 2015 Major League Baseball draft.

Whitlock didn’t give up on his dreams and decided to play collegiate baseball to continue his baseball journey.

The player then enrolled at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

In 2016, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Chatham Anglers. It was in 2017 when he finally achieved his dreams of going pro.

After his sophomore year, he got selected in the 18th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees and signed with the organization.

Garrett Whitlock Mourns His Brother Gavrie Whitlock

Garrett’s brother was Gavrie Whitlock, who was a huge fan of sailing boats and driving big machinery. He lost his brother on September 04, 2008, at the age of just 23 years.

As per the brother’s Facebook, he was from Snellville, Georgia, the same as his brother, but lived in Atlanta.

He went to Brookwood High School and graduated in 2017. The player’s brother claimed to be a professional mechanic and was also engaged in customizing various vehicles.

Gavrie has been working at the Regal Service Company since 16 January 2021. He has also worked at Nasser Heavy Equipment Inc. as a Yard manager.

Gavrie was a huge fan of cars and trucks with big engines. He even had a dedicated space in his garage to watch TV and enjoy drinks beside his truck.

Family and friends were at the top of his list of priority of Gavrie, which included god too.

The brother loved fishing and going on boating trips, which might be why he was out so late at the Lake Lanier that night.

Gavrie also seemed to be interested in playing football when he was fresh out of high school, but life doesn’t always go your way.

In a Twitter post, he joked that he would get out of the way of other high school students who were aspiring to be football stars.

He made a satirical and playful announcement about being accepted into the Caterpillar Yancey Bros apprentice program.

While he was at it, he also mentioned that he was getting multiple calls from other companies, including  Lockheed Martin.

How Was The Tragedy Of Gavrie Whitlock’s Tragic Death Unfolded?

By now, we have already established the love that Garret’s brother Gavrie had for fresh waters.

Maybe it was routine as usual for him to run around the docks that night, but one can never expect an incoming tragedy.

The Department of Natural Resources responded to a drowning incident at the lake’s oldest and largest marina at 10:30 p.m.

According to witnesses, Whitlock was racing along a wharf at the Holiday Marina when he slipped and plummeted into the lake’s depths.

The DNR and the Hall County Fire Rescue crew immediately began searching for Whitlock after receiving the distress call.

After a long search, they discovered his lifeless body about 17 feet below the water.

Despite their best attempts, they could not revive Whitlock, who was pronounced dead at the site.

The Whitlock brothers shared immense love for each other. Gavrie even had an Instagram story highlight dedicated solely to showing off the game to his brother.

We offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Whilock family in this time of trouble.
