Georgia Football Player Chase Calicut Accused of Forcing Teen Driver To Brake Suddenly In Alleged Road Rage Incident

Chace Calicut has been arrested!

Highly touted Georgia football commit Chace Calicut has been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a disturbing road rage incident that took place on July 6 in Texas.

Calicut, a 17-year-old four-star cornerback from North Shore High School in Houston, had only recently committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on June 27.

He is ranked as the No. 114 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. However, his future is now clouded by serious allegations of criminal activity.

Alleged Incident On The Interstate

Court documents outline a harrowing sequence of events involving Calicut and another teen driver, someone he reportedly knew from school.

According to the documents, Calicut was driving with his friend, Isaiah Brice Phillip, in the passenger seat when they encountered the other teen on the road.

Calicut allegedly pulled in front of the victim’s car and abruptly slammed on the brakes, forcing the other driver to react quickly to avoid a collision.

As the driver attempted to get away, Calicut reportedly maneuvered his vehicle alongside him again, driving erratically.

During this tense encounter, the victim claimed to see Phillip brandishing a handgun from the passenger side.

Moments later, as the teen tried to flee by making a U-turn, gunshots were heard.

A friend of the victim, who was driving behind, told authorities he witnessed Phillip firing the weapon out of Calicut’s car window.

In a tragic and unrelated turn of events, the alleged shooter, 17-year-old Isaiah Brice Phillip, was killed over the weekend in a separate shooting at a pool party, where multiple people were struck in a chaotic scene.

Phillip had been previously charged alongside Calicut for the July 6 assault, but his death now complicates the legal landscape surrounding the incident.

The victim in the road rage case also claims that Calicut had been harassing and threatening him for several months, both at school and over FaceTime, leading up to the alleged attack.

No Statement From Georgia Yet

As of now, the University of Georgia has not released a public statement regarding Calicut’s commitment status or the incident itself.

The arrest has reignited concerns around a growing pattern of off-field issues involving Georgia football recruits.

Just earlier this month, another Georgia 2026 recruit, defensive lineman Seven Cloud, was charged with domestic battery stemming from an incident in Kansas.

That adds to a string of troubling events surrounding the program, particularly those involving reckless or criminal behavior behind the wheel.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has previously addressed the team’s off-field controversies.

In July 2024, amid multiple driving-related arrests, Smart stated:

“The incidents that we’ve had off the field are not something that we condone. It’s very unfortunate, disappointing I guess is the best word… The outcomes are very disappointing.”

With charges of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony in Texas, now looming over Calicut, his future in college football is uncertain.

If convicted, the penalties could be severe. The legal process will likely take months to unfold, and Georgia’s decision on his scholarship and roster spot remains to be seen.

This case adds yet another layer to the growing scrutiny facing top-tier college programs and their recruitment decisions amid repeated behavioral red flags.
