The Grand Blanc community is heartbroken over the sudden death of Logan Welch, a 30-year-old husband, coach, and soon-to-be dad who was killed in a workplace shooting on November 5, 2025.
Logan was shot at Trims Unlimited in Almont Township just after 8:20 a.m. and later died at a nearby hospital.
The shooter, 32-year-old William Channer from Columbus, Michigan, knew the business and fled the scene before being wounded by police during a chase. He now faces murder charges.
Logan’s wife, Hannah Welch, shared the news of his death in a devastating Facebook post that also revealed they were expecting their first child, a baby girl due in April.
The couple had been together since she was 17, building a life full of love and plans for the future.
In her post, Hannah wrote through tears:
“This was supposed to be the happiest announcement in my life, but instead I write it in heartbreak. Logan literally wanted nothing else in this world than to be a dad, and he desperately wanted to be a girl dad. On November 5, Logan was tragically taken from us in a way I can’t comprehend. I keep waking up hoping it’s a nightmare, but he’s not next to me. I’m angry that someone took his life when he had so much to live for. I’m devastated that he’ll never meet his daughter.”

She went on to remember their 13 years together.
“I have loved this man since I was 17. We were kids who grew up and were supposed to raise a family and grow old together. He was my entire heart and my best friend. There wasn’t a day in all those years that I didn’t know how much he loved me.”
Hannah also honored the loss felt by others.
“His parents lost their son, his siblings lost the middle of their trio, his niece lost an uncle she won’t remember, my family lost their Logie Bear, his friends lost their L-Dub, and his players lost their Coach.”
She ended with a reminder to cherish every moment.
“Hug and kiss who you love. Tell them every day. I can’t stop thinking about whether I told Logan I loved him before we went to sleep.”
He grew up in Grand Blanc and graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 2013, where he played football.
The school’s football page shared that he always talked about the privilege of coaching kids in their formative years.
One of his players, seventh-grader Braxton Fountain, said, “He was a really good coach. He was funny and made us laugh a lot.”
Friends remembered Logan as the kind of person who made everyone feel seen and included.
Cole Edwards, a childhood friend, wrote:
“Logan was confident, kind, funny as hell, and loyal. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder than I did with him in class. Last month he messaged me about playing pickleball in Grand Blanc. I was so excited to reconnect. Now I’m crushed that I’ll never get that chance.”

Perla Vargas added,
“To know Logan was to laugh, even at his corny dad jokes. He brought light everywhere. Heaven gained an angel.”

A coworker, Alan Karwowski, shared a chilling close call on Facebook.
“I worked two feet from the shooter for over three weeks. If I hadn’t switched to second shift, I would’ve been at that station when it happened. I’m heartbroken for the family.”

Grand Blanc Community Schools offered grief counseling to staff and students at West Middle School and Holy Family Catholic School, where Logan’s mother, Jill, teaches second grade.
Jill called her son “the best son” and said he was overjoyed about becoming a father.
During a high school football game in Clarkston that Friday, the crowd held a two-minute tribute in Logan’s honor.
A GoFundMe titled “Aid Hannah in Healing from Logan’s Loss” was started by family friend Kelsea Lambert to help with funeral costs, living expenses, and support for Hannah as she prepares to welcome their daughter. The goal is $160,000, and it has already been quickly surpassed, with over $52,000 raised.
Logan is survived by his wife, Hannah, his mother, Jill, his brother, his sister, and his young niece.
He was the middle child, the jokester, the coach who believed in every kid, and the husband who made Hannah feel loved every single day.
As she carries their baby girl, the community holds tight to his memory, his laughter, his kindness, and the light he brought to every life he touched.
Rest in peace, Coach Welch. You’ll never be forgotten.
