Coach Fussell dreams of bringing the community together and making it one big family.

Jason Fussell, the athletic director at Hobbton High School, is stepping down as the baseball coach of the Wildcats and has named Jackson McLamb as his replacement.

He has been a physical education teacher and baseball coach for over 2 decades.

Coach Fussell served as a baseball coach for Midway in 2004 and also became their athletic director and football coach.

His impact is also measured by the players he helped develop. Under his leadership, 18 Midway players went on to play baseball at the college level.

He led the Raiders’ baseball team with great success, accumulating an impressive 293 wins, and guided the team to an NCHSAA 2-A state championship in 2014.

Leaving the Raiders wasn’t easy for Fussell, and the program he helped build represented years of hard work and dedication. After leaving the Raiders, he began his new chapter with the Hobbton.

I didn’t want to walk out the door (at Midway) yesterday, but I did. I can’t even begin to thank all the people in the community who have helped. Everything that has gone on at Midway is a tribute to the kids. I was just fortunate enough to ride along.

Jason Fussell Steps Down as Wildcats Baseball Coach

After six years of leadership, Jason Fussell is stepping down as the head baseball coach of the Hobbton High School Wildcats.

He initially made the move to Hobbton in 2019, leaving the Raiders to take on the roles of physical education teacher, athletic director, and baseball coach.

At the time, Coach Fussell stated the decision was best for his family, as the school was only three miles from his home and his daughters attended there.

Hobbton is three miles from my home. We have two young daughters who will be going through school there and I want to look after them.

During his tenure, he was dedicated to building the program and uniting the community. He had his 300th career win with the Wildcat in May 2021.

However, Coach Fussell is now passing the torch to his replacement, Jackson McLamb.

McLamb, who served as an assistant coach under Fussell, helped lead the Wildcats to a strong 15-9 season in 2024. He is a former college baseball player at Barton College.

Jackson McLamb is set to take over as the head coach for the 2026 season.
