Detroit Teen Jordan Spencer Makes College Baseball Roster, Defying the Odds for Black Players Across 1,600 Programs

Jordan Spencer graduated from Cass Technical High School in 2025 and committed to Tuskegee University baseball.

He has made his family proud of his athletic achievements.

Jordan Spencer is a talented and dedicated young baseball player who made waves at Cass Technical High School.

He has the ideal athletic build for the sport, standing at 6’1″ and weighing 195lbs and combined his strength with agility on the field.

He helped lead his high school team to secure their first District Championship in 30 years in June 2024 and their first Detroit Public School League (PSL) title in over two decades in May 2025.

Afterward, he committed to Tuskegee University baseball.

Detroit Teen Swings for the Fences: Jordan Spencer Makes College Roster, Inspiring Hope

Jordan Spencer is heading to the baseball field at Tuskegee University, and his journey is resonating far beyond the diamond.

He is the son of Lorenzo Spencer and Tianna Spencer.

Jordan’s athletic achievement sparked a heartfelt Facebook post from his proud father, Lorenzo Spencer.

Lorenzo shows a reality in the sport, noting that across roughly 1,600 college baseball programs, Black players comprise only about 5% of NCAA rosters.

Despite these obstacles, Jordan’s accomplishment is an example of his determination.

I almost cried seeing my baby boy on a college baseball roster! He worked hard for it. There are roughly 1600 college baseball programs including NAIA and JUCO. Black players only make up 5% of NCAA college baseball at all divisions.
