Ime Udoka’s parents, Agnes and Vitalis Udoka, raised him in Portland, Oregon, US along side two siblings.
They provided him with unwavering support that helped him succeed in basketball. Unfortunately, both of Ime’s parents have passed away.
Ime Sunday Udoka is a Nigerian-American basketball player and coach born on August 9, 1977.
He currently serves as the head coach for the Houston Rockets in the NBA.
Udoka started his basketball journey at Jefferson High School before moving on to play for the San Francisco Dons and the Portland State Vikings in college.
His break into professional basketball came when he joined the Los Angeles Lakers and debuted against the Denver Nuggets on January 14, 2004.
Udoka transitioned to coaching and worked as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets.
He later became the head coach of the Boston Celtics, leading them to the NBA Finals in 2022.
After serving a suspension for the 2022-23 season, Udoka was appointed as the head coach for the Houston. Rockets in April 2023.

Vitalis, originally from Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, moved to the United States for his studies at Portland State University, where he later met and married Agnes who hails from Illinois, USA.
Ime has two siblings – James, born in 1975, Mfon in 1976, and Ime in 1977.
Growing up, the family faced financial challenges and lived in a poor background. Vitalis worked multiple jobs to support his family.
However, he faced discrimination at work as he was an immigrant and black. He refused to tolerate discrimination or mistreatment from his employers, which resulted in him losing many jobs.
Ime has always credited his father for instilling a solid work ethic in him and encouraging his passion for basketball.

Ime Udoka’s Sister Mfon Udoki Is Former WNBA Player
Ime’s older sister, Mfon Udoka, is a retired basketball player who represented the Nigeria women’s national basketball team in the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Currently, Mfon serves as an assistant coach for the Nigerian women’s national basketball team, also known as D’Tigress.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Mfon graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School in 1994 before attending DePaul University from 1994 to 1998.
After her time at DePaul, Mfon joined the Detroit Shock of the WNBA in 1998, playing three games. She took a break but returned to the league in 2003 with the Houston Comets.
Later, In May 2011, she was appointed Assistant Coach for the Nigerian women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress.
On the other hand, James, Ime’s older brother, has no athletic background and is a reserved, private person.
