NBA player Tyrese Haliburton grew up in a blended family with three brothers, one of whom is Marcel Haliburton.
Tyrese Haliburton was born on February 29, 2000, to parents John and Brenda Haliburton.
He grew up in a blended family with three brothers: two elder siblings from his mother’s previous marriage and a younger brother, Marcel, born to John and Brenda.
While the names and personal details of Tyrese’s elder brothers aren’t known, most likely they’ve been part of his support system as he rose from a high school star at Oshkosh North to an NBA All-Star.
The Haliburton family’s tight bond was evident when Tyrese made his playoff debut in his home state of Wisconsin in 2024, with his immediate family, including his brothers, in attendance to cheer him on.
Marcel Haliburton, Tyrese’s younger brother, has kept a relatively low profile compared to his NBA-star sibling. He attended Oshkosh North High School, where he played football, appearing on the team’s roster in 2017.
Marcel hasn’t pursued a public athletic career. Instead, he has ventured into the online gaming world, streaming on Twitch under the username “HaliburtonBros.”
The HaliburtonBros Twitch channel features Marcel streaming games such as Call of Duty: Warzone, NCAA Football 14, and “Just Chatting” sessions, where he interacts with viewers.
Marcel is supportive of Tyrese’s career, with him attending most of his games.
Tyrese Haliburton’s Brother, Marcel, Faced Racial Abuse During The 2024 NBA Playoffs!
During the 2024 NBA playoffs, a disturbing event involving Marcel Haliburton drew attention away from Tyrese’s first playoff appearance.
On April 21, 2024, during Game 1 of the Indiana Pacers’ first-round playoff series against the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Marcel was allegedly subjected to a racial slur by a fan in the stands.
Tyrese addressed the incident during a postgame press conference following the Pacers’ 125-108 victory in Game 2 on April 23, 2024, saying:
My little brother in the stands the other day was called the N-word. It was important for us as a family to just address that. That was important for us to talk about because that didn’t sit right with anybody in our family. It’s just been important to have my family here right now. My little brother has handled that the right way.
The incident occurred during a heated playoff atmosphere, with Tyrese noting that the crowd’s energy was less friendly compared to regular-season games, where he is often celebrated as a “hometown kid.”
According to a Bucks spokesperson, the situation arose when arena guest services asked a group of fans, including Marcel, to move to their correct seats.
One individual in the group reported that a fan seated in front of them used a disrespectful term, though the accused fan denied the allegation.
The group was relocated, and no further incidents were reported. However, security was notified, but the fan accused of using the slur wasn’t removed from the game.
Tyrese later elaborated on why he felt compelled to share the incident publicly, stating,
It happened… It’s frustrating, understanding that still happens in the world, whatever. But listen, we’re from Wisconsin. We understand that one bad apple doesn’t ruin a bunch.
