Jeremy Shockey isn’t gay but previously said he wouldn’t want gay teammates. The former Giants’ tight end apologized for his comments and thought no one would take his comment seriously.
Jeremy Shockey entered into the NFL with the Giants in 2002. A two-time Super Bowl Champion, Shockey made it to the Pro Bowl team four times.
He played six seasons with the Giants before moving to the New Orleans Saints in 2008 and played three years with them. He retired in 2011, with the Carolina Panthers being his final team.
Shockey was a controversial figure. When the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2008, he didn’t participate in the victory parade. Jeremy also refused to visit the White House.
It was reported he couldn’t see the team succeeding without him, with rookie Kevin Boss perfectly taking up his role.
Is Jeremy Shockey Gay Or Does He Have A Wife?
Jeremy Shockey gay rumors aren’t true, but he has made comments on the LGBTQ+ community. In 2002, the former Giants’ tight end made a comment that didn’t sit well in the mainstream media and among fans.
During a conversation with Howard Stern on his radio show, Jeremy was asked about his thoughts on whether there were any gay players in the NFL.
Shockey said, “I don’t know. I don’t like to think about that. I hope not.” A University of Miami graduate, Jeremy was further asked if he thought any of his teammates from his college days were gay.
Jeremy replied that if he knew there was a gay guy on his college team, he wouldn’t stand for it. He said, “You know, I think, you know, they’re going to be in the shower with us and stuff, so I don’t think that’s gonna work.”
Two weeks after making those comments on Howard’s show, Jeremy apologized, stating he was only trying to be funny. He told the Daily News he regrets making those comments and thought nobody would make a big deal out of it.
Shockey further said, “I’m not prejudiced against anybody’s beliefs or what they do in their off time.”
But the damage was done. Several websites for gay sports fans pointed out the tone with which Shockey made the comments. One of the presidents of the gay sports website said he didn’t believe that Shockey was joking.
The tight end has previously shown for the Republican politician and the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, on his social media handle.
So, there is a chance that Shockey truly meant what he said but later doubled down on his comments.
The Former NFL Player Jeremy Shockey Former Wife
Jeremy Shockey was married for eight months in 2012 to Daniela Cortazar Shockey. In his divorce lawsuit, Shockey stated that their marriage was irretrievably broken.
An article by TMZ in January 2013 claimed that Daniela wasn’t getting a zich of Shockey’s money as she had signed an airtight prenup. But Daniela claimed she was still entitled to temporary alimony and lawyers’ fees under Florida law.
Seven months after their divorce news made headlines, Daniela said she wanted Jeremy to be tossed in jail.
In her lawsuit against Jeremy, Daniela claimed that the football player was pretending he knew nothing about his finances. She also said Jeremy had refused to prove his net worth.
A few weeks after making her feelings known about her ex-husband, Daniela lost the lawsuit battle against Jeremy. Florida’s judge said the prenup they signed was “fair and responsible.”
Daniela was seeking greater payouts than the $21,000 Shockey paid her in moving expenses and the $19,000 he mailed her in temporary support.
In terms of assets, Daniela was allowed to keep a $7k Rolex watch, a $1200 Bulgari ring, an $800 Cartier bracelet, and a $800 purse. But she had to give half the value of the items to Shockey in cash.
Shockey and Daniela didn’t share any kids, and the former footballer hasn’t married since his divorce.
