Katie George is not related to Phyllis George in any way. That being said, the two sportscasters do have some commonalities.

Their surname has left many fans confused regarding their relationships. They also have the State of Kentucky, an intersection of their lives.

Katie George is an American sportscaster born on December 3, 1993, and works for the ACC Network and ESPN.

She achieved recognition as a three-time all-conference volleyball selection at the University of Louisville and held the title of Miss Kentucky USA in 2015.

After graduating high school, George attended the University of Louisville (U of L). There, she played for the Louisville Cardinals women’s volleyball team.

Phyllis was born on June 25, 1949, but sadly passed away on May 14, 2020. She was a businesswoman, actress, and sportscaster from the United States.

In 1975, George was appointed as a reporter and co-host of the CBS Sports pre-show, The NFL Today.

This made her one of the first women in national television sports reporting. She was also Kentucky’s First Lady from 1979 to 1983.

Is Katie George Related To Phyllis George?

Katie George is not related to Phyllis George, and their family tree does not look intertwined from any angle. 

They are related in some ways, one being that both have the common sportscaster profession. 

Furthermore, the birth state of Katie, Kentucky, is the same state where Phyllis took her last breath. 

Katie’s grandfather’s family had emigrated from Hamat, Lebanon, and settled in Kentucky, where her family later grew. 

Her father’s name is Tim George, and her mother’s name is Annie. She also has two siblings, whose names are Charles and Timmy.

On the other hand, Phyllis was born in Denton, Texas. She was married twice, once to Robert Evans, from 1977 to 1978.

Her other husband is John Y. Brown Jr., the 55th governor of Kentucky. The couple got married in 1979 and once again divorced in 1998. 

Phyllis also has two children: a daughter, Pamela Brown, and a son, Lincoln Brown. As you can see from their family tree, there is no relation between the two Georges.

Furthermore, both of them used to compete in pageantries when they were young. They have a pretty successful track record, winning multiple high-profile pageants. 

Phyllis’ Cause Of Death 

Phyllis had passed away in Lexington at the age of 70. The doctors said that she had been battling a blood disorder since her mid-30s.

She died on a Thursday afternoon at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital.

Doctors said that she had a condition called Polycythemia vera.

It was her ex-husband, John Y. Brown Jr., who confirmed her death.

He spoke fondly of their time together, especially during their four years as Kentucky’s governor and first lady.

Her well-wishers remember her for her radiant charm and celebrity appeal.

Furthermore, Phyllis had played a prominent role in Brown’s successful gubernatorial campaign in 1979.
