NHL Cult-hero Jason and Sara Blake’s son Jackson Blake has signed an eight-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes for a whopping $45 million contract. The new contract is set to begin in the 2026-27 NHL season.
Jackson Blake had a tremendous breakout season in 2024-2025, although he was drafted a few years ago, in the 2021 NHL Draft. He was the 109th overall pick in the 4th round by the Carolina Hurricanes.
The NFL rookie scored 17 goals and assists each in 80 appearances. He also had 6-match winning goals, which is the most for a rookie.
With a long-term contract secured, Jackson will already be close to reaching his father’s total NHL season tally, which is 13.
Jackson’s Parents Knew His Potential And Were Supportive From The Start
Even before Jackson’s NHL debut, Jackson’s father was convinced he would make a great player in the future, and even compared him to himself.
In the Midco Sports feature Blake To Blake: A UND Hockey Legacy, he said;
“If I look at Jackson, he’s way more skilled than I ever was.”
Long before he made his NHL debut and was drafted, both his mother and father used to support him at the Field even during his high school days. After Jackson’s double-overtime winner to clinch Eden Prairie High School’s Class 2A state title on April 4, 2021, she had her say;
“When he won it, I mean, it was just awesome. He scored the game-winning goal. It was just a big-time thrill, something you cherish for the rest of your life.”
Also in April 2024, when Jackson was one of the three Hobey Hat Trick finalists for the 2024 Hobey Baker Award, his father had his say;
“When he was a junior in high school, I mea,n he’s had a lot of moments that are specia,l but when they won the state high school hockey championship here for Eden Perry I that was almost a dream come true growing up in Minnesota we’re both from Minnesota you know going to state tournament was such a thrill even when you’re you know sixth seventh eighth grade going to the state tournament watching that it’s just a big just a big time thrill and when he won it I mean it was just awesome and he scored the game winning goal so but I mean there’s lots of moments from early on that it’s just been things that ou cherish for your rest of your life.”
His mother also replied,
“Yeah, he grew up hearing Jason talking about playing in the state hockey tournament so that was kind of, you know, set the bar for his goal really early in life like he’s like oh dad playing okay I’m going to play and then same as him (her husband), playing in the NHL I think yeah motivated UND he (Jackson) followed all those things it was really fun yeah.”
Strong words from Jackson’s Parents suggest that he had the potential to be a top player from his early days. Also, they have been part of their son’s success from high school hockey tournaments to attending NHL games.
