Australian professional cyclist Jai Hindley’s parents are his biggest fans. They know what their son wants and have gone to almost every place to cheer for him since he began competing in professional bike racing in 2016.
Recently, his parents, Gordon and Robyn, have been all over the news as they are in Europe to support their son, participating in this year’s Tour de France.
As this is his first-ever appearance in the tournament, it is pretty special for the Hindleys.
A cyclist at heart, Jai Hindley began taking the game seriously when he was six. A year later, he participated in his first cycling race, which motivated him to become a professional cyclist.
After spending many years in Australia, competing in numerous big and minor competitions, he came to Europe in 2013 at age 17.
Three years later, Jai signed a professional contract with an Italian racing team, after which he never turned back.
In 2022, Jai became the first Australian to win the Giro d’Italia, one of the Grand Tours. Two years before, he had finished the competition as second overall after getting defeated by Tao Geoghegan Hart by 39 seconds.
Jai Hindley Parents, Gordon, And Robyn
Jai Hindley was born to his parents, Gordon and Robyn, on May 5, 1996, in Perth, West Australia. He spent his childhood in Perth, playing rugby with his older brother.
However, his dad admits he did not like his kids spending more time playing rugby, which is among Australia’s most popular games.
Gordon, originally from England, was an avid bike rider in his youth and wanted his sons to follow the same.
So, he began taking his sons cycling daily, and Jai grew fond of the sport within a year. His older brother, too, was a good cyclist, but he never considered going professional.
On the other hand, Jai followed every renowned cycle tour like his dad. He first watched Tour de France when he was seven and was determined that he would play in the competition someday.
Fortunately, everything turned out as he and his parents had planned. With his hard work and strong determination, Jai achieved what he thought was impossible as a kid.
Today, he competes at the highest level of cycling competitions and is undoubtedly a superstar athlete.
He believes his parents are the reason behind all his achievements and rightly considers them his biggest fans.
His parents recently went to Europe to cheer up their son from close during his Tour de France campaign.
Hindley At The 2023 Tour de France
On Wednesday, Jai Hindley earned the yellow jersey at the 2023 Tour de France after winning the competition’s first mountain stage.
With the win, the Australian has taken a lead of 47 seconds against the former champion Jonas Vingegaard.
Following his victory, Hindley told the media that he had not thought he would achieve something like this, even in his wildest dreams.
He added, “I’ve been watching the Tour since I was six and never thought I’d find myself in the yellow jersey.”
Jai is among the only five Grand Tour winners competing at the Tour de France this year.
While he is one of the favorites, people are equally excited to see how tough it will be for him, given that fierce competitors like Adam Yates and former two-time winner Tadej Pogacar are also competing.
