Early Life

On November 18, 1991, Jameson Taillon was born in Lakeland, Florida, to Christie and Michael Taillon.

Taillon attended The Woodlands High School in Texas, where he caught the attention of scouts due to his 22–6 win-loss record.

His senior year was 8–1, and he threw a no-hitter against rival Conroe High School on March 23, 2010, with 19 strikeouts.

Personal life

Although Taillon was born in the United States, his parents are Canadian, and he holds dual citizenship in both countries.

In May 2017, he underwent surgery for testicular cancer and had one testicle removed. As of 2019, he is cancer-free.

Professional career

Before the 2010 MLB draft, Fangraphs called Taillon the best high school pitching prospect since Josh Beckett (1999).

Baseball America compared him to Stephen Strasburg.

He had signed a National Letter of Intent with Rice University in November 2009, which presented a challenge to the Pirates in their effort to sign him.

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Taillon with the second overall pick in the draft. 

Nevertheless, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported hours before the deadline that Taillon had signed with the Pirates.

Baseball America’s Jim Callis estimated the signing bonus would be around $6.5 million, the second-highest of all drafts.

After staying in Florida for an extended spring training assignment, Taillon joined the West Virginia Power on April 24, 2011, and made his professional debut against the Hagerstown Suns.

Taillon spent the entire season with the Power, going 2–3 with a 3.98 earned run average (ERA) in 23 starts. Taillon was selected to play in the 2012 All-Star Futures Game.

He started the season with the Bradenton Marauders before being promoted to the Altoona Curves in August 2012.

In his first week at the Curve, August 20–26, 2012, Tyrone made 26 starts between his two teams and was named the Eastern Pitcher of the Week in his league.  

Before the 2013 season, Mlb.com ranked Taillon as his  15th most promising player in baseball.

In a short period, Kool-Aid McKinstry was able to amass a name and fame as an Athlete for his practical skills. He is a rising star in the field of football who played for the Pinson (Ala.) Valley High School.

Taillon represented Canada in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and was the team’s youngest member at age 21.

He started the season with Altoona, and in August Indianapolis, he was promoted to the Indians. 

In his 26 games (25 starts) between the two clubs, Taillon compiled his 5-10  record and his 3.73 ERA.

Tyrone underwent surgery by Tommy John in April 2014 to repair damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow on his pitching arm, costing him the 2014 season.

Due to a  hernia operation, he missed the 2015 season. 

Taillon returned to the Indians in 2016 and started ten games before his first major league call-up.

Taillon went 4-2 with a 2.04 ERA, and in 61.2 innings, he struck out 61 and only walked 6. The previous day’s doubleheader.

In his first-round debut against Noah in 2010, Tyrone pitched? Six innings, giving him six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.

Conceding three goals, he lost 6-5 in the end. After the game, Taillon was moved back to Triple-A but was told by his manager, Clint Hurdle, “That boy put his heart into everything he did.

His stay in Indianapolis was short-lived.” However, an injury to Gerrit Cole necessitated a move to bring Tyrone back into the rotation.

On June 14, Taeyong made his second start against the Mets, keeping eight scoreless innings.

After a no-hitter in the seventh inning, Curtis Granderson broke out to record his first victory in July’s 4–0 win by hitting a head.

Taillon spent the rest of 2016 in Pittsburgh. Rice field. In 18 starts, he posted a 5-4 record and a 3.38 ERA.

Tyrone entered the Pirates’ starting rotation in 2017. In May, he was placed on the disabled list while undergoing surgery for testicular cancer.

Tyrone started his first rehab three weeks later, giving up a run in three innings. On June 12, he returned to the hills for pirates.

In his 25 starts during his 2017 season, he compiled an 8-7 record and a 4.44 ERA. He went 14-10 in 191 innings.

In 2019, Tyllon’s season was cut short due to a forearm injury. He was closed for the rest of the season on August 2, 2019. He was 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA in seven starts.

On August 14, he underwent surgery to repair a flexor tendon and correct his UCL. Taillon also missed all of his 2020.

He was named the American League Pitcher of the Month in July, posting a 1.16 ERA. He finished the 2021 season with an 8–6 record in 29 starts, a 4.30 ERA, and 140 strikeouts in 144+1/3 innings.

On June 2, 2022, Tyllon returned to Los Angeles in Game 2 of his doubleheader against the Angels, where he batted seven perfect innings.

That bid eventually ended with a double from Jared Walsh in the eighth inning.
