Early Career

When it comes to Jared, there are not many details on his early career. But from what we know, Jared has been playing ice hockey since he was a kid.

Hence, from childhood, McCann had wanted to pursue a professional ice hockey career. As a youth, Jared played in the major junior ice hockey team Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

While Playing with the Sault, Jared was recognized for his outstanding performance and was also named the Ontario Hockey League Second All-Rookie Team.

Notably, he was also ranked 10th amongst the North American skaters in the Central Scouting final rankings.

Moreover, the Canadian player also took part in the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament as Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 team member. There he played incredibly and won the gold medal with Team Canada.

Professional Career

Jared started his professional NHL career with Vancouver Canucks after getting selected as the 24th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Likewise, he finally made his NHL debut against the Calgary Flames on October 7, 2015. He scored his first NHL goal against the Calgary Flames in his second game and scored five goals in his first nine games.

Later, he finished with 18 points in 69 games. In the 2016 season, Vancouver Canucks traded Jared to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Erik Gudbranson.

Moreover, McCann split the 2016-2017 season between Florida and Springfield of the American Hockey League.

He appeared in 68 games with Florida Panthers, producing (19) career-highs in assists, (28) points, and (9) career-high in goals.

Notably, Jared was also named American Hockey League Player of the Week on April 16, 2017, for his incredible performance in AHL.  

Further, in the 2019 season, McCann was traded by the Florida Panthers to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He debuted with the Pittsburgh against the Ottawa Senators with a 5-3 win.

All in all, Jared appeared in 66 games with the Penguins in the 2019 season. Notably, he also appeared in three Stanley Cup Qualifiers games for Pittsburgh.

In 2020 Jared again re-signed to a two-year contract with the Penguins.

Over the course of his career split between Penguins, Panthers, and the Canucks, McCann has tallied 71 assists and 52 goals in 310 games.

Later on, the ice hockey player was traded to  Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Filip Hållander and a 7th-round pick on July 17, 2021.

Jared was named to his first Team Canada roster in the 2019 IIHF World Championship on April 29, 2019.
