The Cavs center Jarrett grew up with his older brother Leonard Allen Sr. who had committed to playing basketball for Baylor University but took a leave of absence in 2017.

As a child, the two brothers dreamed of making it big in basketball since their father played for eight seasons in the NBA.

And they always had someone to pass the ball around, which helped them further hone their skills.

However, only Jarrett made it to the biggest basketball league, NBA.

Education

Jarrett went to Round Rock High School for his freshman year and transferred to St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin for his final three years.

As a high schooler, he won two SPC championships and played in the 2016 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game.

After super impressive high school basketball, Allen committed to the University of Texas.

He was a five-star recruit in the Class of 2016. After freshman year, Allen declared for the 2017 NBA Draft forgoing his remaining three years of collegiate eligibility.

Career

The Brooklyn Nets picked Jarrett Allen 22nd overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. He stayed with the team for five seasons until he was traded to the Cavaliers in 2021.

Allen inked a rookie deal with the Nets on July 20 and made his NBA debut on October 20.

He was 19 years 182 days when he debuted for the team, making him the second-youngest player in the Net’s history to set foot on the court.

After five seasons of amazing play with the Nets, he was traded to the Cavs in a multi-player, four-team deal with the Houston Rockers that sent James Harden to the Nets.

Contract Extension

On July 2021, Cavs extended a qualifying offer to Jarrett, making him a restricted free agent.

In August of the same year, he signed a multi-year contract with the team.

He played and started all 56 games in the 2021-22 season averaging 16.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.6 assists.

Cavs center Allen was in the starting lineup for the team’s game on January 10, 2023, as they prepared to take on the Jazz.

He was even on the court and performed remarkably for his team, but as the second quarter got underway, Allen was officially ruled as questionable to return with an illness.

With the Cavs, he plays with star players like Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Love, Evan Mobley, etc.

He exited the game early after taking a blow to the face while playing against the Miami Heat on 12 March 2023.

Conley had an eye injury which kept him out of the rest of the game. Allen’s absence could hamper Evan Mobley, even if he is the best defender and competent.

Jarrett is taking positive steps in his recovery from a right eye contusion, and there is the hope of a return this coming week for at least one of the games in Brooklyn when the Cavs travel there for a two-game series.

Let’s hope for the best for Jarrett Allen.

Allen hit the jackpot when he signed a five years $100 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers on August 6, 2021, making him one of the highest-paid players in the NBA.

This deal came with all the bells and whistles, including a full $100 million guaranteed and a $20 million average annual salary.
