Both Jim Clancy and his beloved wife, Kathy, passed away in the same year, just two months apart, leaving behind their three children and cherished grandchildren.
Jim Clancy was a former Major League Baseball pitcher best known for his time with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Born on December 18, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, Clancy became one of the franchise’s foundational players, spending 12 seasons with the team from 1977 to 1988.
His best season came in 1982 when he earned an All-Star selection. Later, he played for the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves, where he won Game 3 of the 1991 World Series as a reliever.
Over a 15-season career, he compiled a 140–167 win-loss record, 4.23 ERA, and more than 2,500 innings pitched.
Tragically, on July 13, 2025, Jim passed away at the age of 69. The Toronto Blue Jays confirmed his death, although no official cause has been made public.
Jim Clancy And His Wife, Kathleen, Were Married For 40 Years!
Jim Clancy’s wife, Kathleen “Kathy” Clancy, was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She was the cherished wife of Jim Clancy for over 40 years. They together had three children: John, Patrick (Kelly), and Shannon.
Everyone who knew them understood that Jimmy and Kathy were always together, and their love was very special and rare.
They were inseparable and shared a strong bond throughout their lives.
Moreover, they were also grandparents to a grandson named Gavin, who was especially dear to Kathy.
Kathy was more than just a mother to her daughter Shannon; she was also her best friend.
During her nearly three-year health battle, she fought bravely to spend more time with her family, especially Shannon and Gavin.
Sadly, she passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at age 62, surrounded by loved ones in her home.
We are saddened to learn of the passing of Blue Jays great, Jim Clancy.

His impact on… pic.twitter.com/9nASV1IIbb
After nearly two months of his wife Kathy’s passing, Jim Clancy reunites with her, sending shockwaves through the baseball community.
The Blue Jays honored him as a foundational figure in their history, praising his leadership and quiet strength.
For his family, whose privacy he fiercely protected, the grief is likely profound, shared quietly away from the public eye.
One of his former students recalled his memory with Jim Clancy and said:
Very Sad News. I was invited to a Blue jays prospect training camp back in the day. I had the pleasure of working on my pitching with Jim Clancy one on one. I was 16 years old….my favourite thing was when I started throwing he said stop. Told the jays catcher to put a mask on….he said…this kid throws hard…!! My Dad was in ear shot of that comment….I know that made him smile. Jim Clancy was a big guy, and one of the all time great Blue jays pitchers.
Even though he died, his legacy continues through the people he influenced and the impact he had on baseball.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Jim Clancy’s family, friends, and well-wishers.
Rest In Peace, Legend!
