Jim Plunkett is a former professional American football quarterback who played for several teams in the National Football League (NFL).
Plunkett had a successful college football career at Stanford University, where he won the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football in 1970.
After college, the New England Patriots selected him as the first overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft.
However, he struggled with the Patriots (1971-75) and later played for the San Francisco 49ers (1976-77) before finding success with the Oakland/ Los Angeles Raiders (1978-86).
The quarterback secured two Super Bowl victories by guiding the Raiders to triumph in the 1980 and 1983 seasons. Furthermore, he was the 1980 Super Bowl MVP.

Jim Plunkett and Gerry Plunkett have shared their lives in marriage since May 30, 1982.
The couple has been blessed with two children – a son named James William Plunkett, Jr. (born April 14, 1983, and unexpectedly passed away in his sleep on November 22, 2008) and a daughter named Meghan Plunkett (born December 30, 1984).
Tragically, James Jr.’s untimely death in 2008 left the family devastated.
Following this heartbreaking event, the Plunkett family, including Jim, Gerry, and Meghan, participated in an episode of the TV program “Dog Whisperer.”
The episode featured Gotti, the pit bull that had belonged to James Jr. Initially, Jim and Gerry felt they couldn’t handle Gotti and attempted to find him another home.
However, Meghan, in tribute to her brother, took it upon herself to keep Gotti and welcomed him into the family home.

Meghan Plunkett, born December 30, 1984, attended St. Francis High School, where she actively played volleyball.
Notably, her high school team achieved significant success, winning a state championship every year she played.
During her senior year, the team secured the Division I Central Coast Section Championship, State Championship, and National Championship.
Meghan continued her volleyball journey at Manhattan College from 2003 to 2006, earning the distinction of team co-captain for the 2006 season.
Her academic pursuits led her to major in marketing with a minor in studio art.
