A prominent basketball coach, Joe Prunty, was born on February 12, 1969, in Sunnyvale, California. Prunty has possessed an obsession with basketball from a very young age.

Initially, he went to Fremont High School to complete his schooling. Then, he played collegiate basketball at De Anza College in Cupertino, California.

In 1992, he started coaching at the University of San Diego High School and St. Augustine High School.

Prunty had received a tip while coaching at the high school level that there was an opening in Spurs as an assistant video coordinator.

Based on this, Prunty officially started his career in the NBA.

As an assistant coach, he helped the San Antonio Spurs win the NBA championship thrice in 1999, 2003, and 2005.

What Is Joe Prunty Salary & Net Worth 2024?

Joe Prunty’s salary is estimated to be around $1 million to $3 million annually.

This estimation was drawn after considering the salary of his previous head coach, Adrian Griffin.

When the Bucks signed Griffin for the 2023 season, he negotiated a contract worth $4 million per year.

As for coaching contracts, this is the second time that any NBA team has entrusted Prunty with head coaching responsibilities.

However, both of these times, he has been assigned only in an interim capacity. Before the recent appointment, Prunty served as an interim head coach for Atlanta in 2023.

Now, whether the Bucks will promote him to head coach or not is still another story. Furthermore, this is not the first time Prunty has been with the Bucks.

Prunty had a run with the Bucks from 2014, serving as their assistant coach, which lasted up to 2017.

He was once again brought on board last season and had been under head coach Griffin.

Why Did The Bucks Sack Griffin?

The Milwaukee Bucks sacked first-year head coach Adrian Griffin after only 43 games.

The news came even though the coach enjoyed one of the league’s best records halfway through his debut season.

The team’s defensive issues influenced a challenging decision. It saw a significant drop from fourth in defense the previous season to 22nd this season.

The Bucks’ executives, led by General Manager Jon Horst, voiced appreciation for Griffin’s services while emphasizing the need for quick improvement, particularly on defense.

They have now named veteran assistant Joe Prunty as the interim head coach, and they are actively seeking seasoned and competent coaches. One of the prominent candidates is Doc Rivers.

Despite the strong win-loss record, the team’s title expectations, enhanced by the addition of Damian Lillard, influenced the decision to change coaches.

Rumors floated that players, especially star Giannis Antetokounmpo, were losing faith in Griffin, which complicated the decision-making process.

Griffin’s firing was primarily due to defensive issues and a need for a coaching change to improve team performance.
