The Washington Nationals officially drafted Zimmermann during the second round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft.

2009

While representing the Washington Nationals, Baseball America rated Jordan as the Nationals’ best prospect going into the 2009 MLB season.

In 2009, he made it as the fifth-starter during the Nationals’ roster. Although, the Washington Nationals did not want him in the rotation until mid-April.

However, Jordan opened the season with the Syracuse Chiefs, a Minor League Baseball team affiliated to New York Mets as the Triple-A level.

His contract was acquired on April 20th, 2009, and made his major league debut against the Atlanta Braves the same night.

He pitched six innings in the game, allowing two runs on six hits, three strikeouts, and a walk, securing the win. 

While playing against the New York Mets, Jordan won his second consecutive game as many starts, becoming the first pitcher to win the first two starts at the Nationals/Expos. The first player to set that record was Randy Johnson in 1988.

Moreover, in July, Zimmermann experienced elbow pain, and the Washington Nationals kept him on the disabled list. After rehab, in August 2009, he was again diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament and received Tommy John’s surgery.

He faced a seventh-inning third-strike wild pitch that let Garrett Jones reach first base, separated from him to a perfect game, and a fifth-inning walk to Justin Bour.

His performance was also the first in MLB history where throw a no-hitter on the final day during two consecutive seasons. He ended the season with a record of 14–5 and an ERA of 2.66, with a career-high 182 batters strikeout.

2015

2016

The Detroit Tigers signed a five-year contract worth $110 million with Zimmermann on November 30th, 2015. He won the American League Pitcher of the Month honor for April.

Jordan’s 0.55 ERA was the third-best record for April in the history of Detroit Tigers. The other two Detroit pitchers with more solid ERAs in April were Bernie Boland in 1915 and John Hiller in 1974.

However, the Tigers scheduled Zimmermann to start Tuesday to play against Cleveland, but on July 4th, they placed him on the 5-day disabled list due to a neck strain.

2017

Jordan recorded his 1,000th career strikeout in a game while playing against the Houston Astros on May 23rd.

Moreover, in a game against the City Royals on July 17th, he threw 79 strikes on 97 pitches, a percent strike rate of 81, which was the best since 1988. Zimmermann was also the best starter of Major League since 2008.

2018
