On Monday morning’s end-of-season news conference, Antonio Pierce, wearing a throwback Raiders Starter jacket, stated that he had yet to meet with team owner Mark Davis and General Manager Tom Telesco.
He continued by saying that the firing news only comes from outside, and there is nothing to state until the insiders decide.
Antonio Pierce stated,
Similarly, he confidently talked about the future of the Raiders in such a way that suggested he would continue to be head coach, making plans for the team’s future and speaking of his and GM Tom Telesco’s decisions this offseason.
Raiders players also credit Pierce for keeping them focused during a trying season.
Receiver Jakobi Meyers, who had his first career 1,000-yard season, stated that Antonio motivated the guys even when they’re losing so many in a row; that’s hard as a professional competitor in general. AP did a great job of keeping players going and understanding what the goal was at the end of the day.
Likewise, Rookie Brock Bowers added, “I really like AP as a coach. It’s up to certain people and not us, so I don’t have any control over that, but I really like playing for him, and he is a great coach.“
Although Antonio Pierce seems to be confident about his role as head coach of the Raiders, the club has made no official announcement on whether to retain Antonio as the head coach or to dismiss him from his role.
