Craig Bohl and his wife, Leia Bohl, have been married for more than a decade.
From initially knowing nothing about football to attending almost every game of her husband, Leia has been with him through every up and down in his journey.
Craig Bohl, born on July 27, 1958, is an American college football coach and former player. Currently, he serves as the head football coach at the University of Wyoming.
Renowned for his achievements in collegiate football, Bohl gained prominence during his time at North Dakota State University. He guided the Bison to three consecutive NCAA Division I Football Championships in his last three seasons there.
After ten seasons at Wyoming, on December 6, 2023, he officially announced his retirement from the program.
His retirement is scheduled to take effect after the Cowboys participate in the Arizona Bowl on December 30.
Craig Bohl Wife, Leia Bohl
The Nebraska-born coach, Craig Bohl, has been happily married to Leia Bohl, a radio personality known locally by her radio name, Ryan Kelly, for years.
Their family includes children Mallory and Morgan, Aaron and Elijah.
After approximately three years of dating, the couple became engaged in 2009 and exchanged wedding vows in February 2010.
Leia initially admitted to knowing little about football when she first met Bohl.
Craig once gave her a crash course over lunch, using sugar packets as makeshift players.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Craig and his wife Leia donated a $100,000 gift to fund spring sports student-athlete scholarships at the University of Wyoming for those expressing a desire to return for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year.
The estimated cost of these scholarships was $70,000, and the remaining $30,000 of the Bohls’ gift was used to support the UW Athletics Training Table and other nutritional needs of student-athletes.
Retiring After Bowl Game
Wyoming coach Craig Bohl, renowned for securing three FCS national titles at North Dakota State and steering the Cowboys to a record six bowl appearances, will retire following the Arizona Bowl.
Expressing gratitude, Bohl, completing his 10th season at Wyoming, remarked,
“Being the head football coach of the Wyoming Cowboys has been a privilege. I felt like now was the time for me to step away and entrust the program to new leadership.”
Under Bohl’s tenure, Wyoming, which has reached a bowl game in six of the past eight seasons, achieved victory in three bowl games, marking the most under any coach in team history.
Post the bowl game, defensive coordinator Jay Sawvel will assume the position, as announced by the university.
University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman commended Coach Bohl, stating,
“Coach Bohl has been an outstanding ambassador for UW Athletics and has been a great mentor to our student-athletes. I am very thankful for all that Coach Bohl has accomplished and represented during his time as our head coach. I wish him, his wife Leia and his family all the best in the next chapter of their lives.”
Sources suggest that Bohl is a leading candidate to become the next executive director of the American Football Coaches Association.
