Leon Draisaitl was born on October 27, 1995, to his parents, Peter and Sandra Draisaitl, in Cologne, Germany. 

He grew up along with his younger sister Kim Drasaitl. He possesses German nationality and ethnicity.

Major Junior

Following that, Leon made a big move when he joined the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League at seventeen.

He was waived to the Kelowna Rockets for the 2015 World Junior Championships, where he was titled played MVP for appearing in 19 games and notching 28 points.

Not only that, Leon also grabbed the Stafford Smythe Trophy as Memorial Cup MVP in 2015.

However, the Rockets could not make it to the 2015 Memorial Cup.

Professional Career

Leon scored 105 points with the Raiders and stood up wide strong for the German national team at both the U-20 and senior levels, making his dream come true.

He got hired in the  2014 NHL Draft third-overall pick by Edmonton Oilers. Leon made an early jump to the NHL, which made him move ahead of his age.

He suddenly took a version of a man. His father clearly stated, “He had to become a man sooner rather than later.”

Leon signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Edmonton and formally changed the contract on 9 October 2014.

He enrolled in the game against Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, and Vancouver Canucks.

Leon became the first player to have six straight multi-point games since 1990 for the Oilers.

Moreover, he scored a hattrick in the Stanley Cup playoffs and became the second-youngest player for the Oilers to do so.

There is more coming. Leon scored 50 goals in a season, which only five Oilers previously achieved.  He scored at least 100 points in an NHL season and became the ninth Oiler to do so.

Draisaitl was credited with a strong performance through the series, the Oilers advanced in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs beyond the first round for only the second time in Draisaitl’s career in 2022.

The Oilers drew the Calgary Flames in the second round, the first playoff “Battle of Alberta.” The Oilers advanced to the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2006. But they were defeated by the Colorado Avalanche at the end of their postseason.

International Career

Leon performed for the German Junior Team at the World Championships to count on his international play. He did not limit himself to that and became the captain in the latter game.

However, he faced a one-game suspension and was removed from a round-robin game against the U.S.

Leon was titled the German Senior Team roster for the IIHF World Championship. He was also chosen for the 2018 IIHF World Championship.
