The Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Dustin May’s mother is a middle school assistant principal.

Dustin May, who has not made a big league appearance since May 2023 due to flexor tendon surgery and a torn esophagus, made his return on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and secured a 1-3 win against the Atlanta Braves.

May pitched five strong innings and allowed just one hit and an unearned run after missing nearly two years.

With a 7-0 mark, the defending World Series champions, the Dodgers, are off to the club’s best start since moving to Los Angeles.

May spent all of last season rehabbing from a torn flexor tendon and a life-threatening esophageal tear after eating a salad at dinner.

A piece of lettuce got caught in his throat, and he sipped some water, trying to clear it.

He felt a painful sensation in his throat and stomach and later learned the lettuce had perforated his esophageal tube.

Dustin went through surgery that same night, with doctors telling him he had sought medical attention just in time.

Dustin May’s Parents Supported Him In Achieving His Baseball Dreams

The Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Dustin Jake May, 47, was born on September 6, 1977, in Justin, Texas, United States, to his father, Daniel May, and his mother, Suzanne May.

He grew up as a shy kid in a suburb of Fort Worth, Texas, with one younger sister and one older half-brother, whose identity has been kept private.

Dustin’s parents were originally from the United States, so he and his parents are of American nationality and white ethnicity.

His father, Daniel, worked for Little Debbie, a southern icon and a brand of snacks, cookies, and brownies owned by McKee Foods Corporation.

Dustin loves all the snacks his father works with but has a specific taste for Cosmic Brownies.

When Dustin was in high school, he visited a doctor with his father to have his broken thumb repaired, which he had injured during the basketball season.

While he was leaving the appointment, his father jokingly shoved him. The doctor responded, “Probably won’t be able to do that much longer because he’s going to be bigger than you soon.”

Daniel believed it to be a joke until he was shown his son’s growth plates and told that Dustin would be at least 6 feet 6 inches.

On the other hand, Dustin’s mother, Suzanne, who is 6 foot tall, serves as a middle school assistant principal.

Earlier in 2018, Suzanne hoped to fly from her home in Fort Worth, Texas, to see her son pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Although Suzanne and Daniel have avoided the media spotlight, they have always supported Dustin in building his baseball career.

Dustin’s parents are feeling proud as their son recently secured a fantastic win against the Atlanta Braves.
