LSU Star Kyren Lacy’s father, Kenny Lacy, is the head basketball trainer at BST Academy LLC.

Born in 2001, Lacy was found dead on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 24, by deputies with the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office at approximately 11:35 p.m. after he crashed his car near the 25900 block of Aldine Westfield, about 25 miles north of downtown Houston.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that the 2025 NFL Draft prospect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Half an hour before death, deputies with the department responded to a weapons disturbance call in the 9300 block of FM 1960, where a female family member had alerted authorities that Lacy had been involved in an argument with her.

When deputies with the Sheriff’s department arrived, they learned Lacy had fled the scene. Authorities were able to locate his vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop, but Lacy led them on a pursuit before crashing his car.

As per the statement released by the Sheriff’s office, Lacy shot himself during the pursuit and before the vehicle crashed.

Body camera and in-dash mounted video showed that no shots were fired after the pursuit ended. The civil rights division of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was notified and is investigating the case.

The relationship he has got with the guys at that level. It’s been a long time. I am just excited to see my son do whatever he loves to do.”

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, Kenny took to his official Facebook handle to mourn his son’s death and appealed to parents to check on their children and their mental health. He wrote,

Young parents, start talking to your kids at a very early age and make sure they are confident and comfortable confiding in you. Don’t be cool with “I’m Alright,or I’m good” when you know deep down something isn’t right. Mental Health is real, and for the most part, it’s invisible, don’t ignore the signs, even if they may seem small. Our lives have changed forever and this will never be ok, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here. This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through. This will never get easier, but we’ll learn to live with it. Check on your kids mental!!!!!!!!!!!
