San Diego Padres baseman Manny Machado has roots in the Dominican Republic and has represented the Dominican Republic in International Baseball competitions.
Manuel Arturo Machado was born on July 6, 1992, in Miami, Florida, US, as the loving son of his father, Manuel Machado, and mother, Rosa Machado.
The baseball player was raised solely by his mother, Rosa, with the help of his grandfather and uncle.
Moreover, Manny had a relationship with his biological father growing up, but he didn’t live with the family and was not a part of the players’ everyday life.
Growing up, Machado’s grandfather, Francisco Nunez, was a father figure to him. In his interview with The Players’ Tribune, the baseball star says,
Like I said, my grandfather was a father figure to me, and my love for baseball comes from the love he had for the game.

Similarly, his uncle Geovanny Brito also stood up as a guardian for Manny. The player recalled his childhood memories,
My uncle was the one who taught me how to fix things, and how to drive a car. He also taught me how to play baseball. So I was like seven, eight, nine years old, and he was launching missiles right at me. “Here it comes, Manny. You’d better catch it!”
