Max Purcell, a football and track & field coach, passed away peacefully following a brief illness at 6:20 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025.

He had a distinguished coaching career in football and track & field at his alma mater, Maynard Evans High School, and most recently joined the Wekiva Mustangs Football.

Max Purcell was a beloved coach and educator at Wekiva High School, where he was honored with Teacher of the Month.

He had a long and distinguished career coaching football and track & field. After coaching at his alma mater, Evans High School, he brought his passion and expertise to the Wekiva Mustangs Football team.

He was a favorite mentor who was known for seeing potential in his students, often showing confidence in them before they saw it in themselves. He taught authentic leadership and the importance of believing in others.

While he was known for his generous spirit, his players knew that “the Big Guy” demanded discipline and a strong work ethic. His harsh, “mean as a rattlesnake” approach was a gift he used to push his students to be their best.

Purcell left an indelible mark through his many years with Orange County Public Schools, shaping countless young lives as both a coach and an educator.
