Michael Malone’s dad, Brendan Malone, a former basketball coach, was born and raised in the neighborhood of Astoria in Queens, New York City.
He spent his formative years there before attending Rice High School, where he honed his skills both on and off the court.
Brendan’s father, also named Brendan, dedicated his career to unloading freight cars for the renowned Railway Express Agency.
After completing his high school education, Brendan pursued higher learning at Iona College.
Although his time on the court for the Iona Gaels men’s basketball team was limited to just one game in 1960, he made the most of his college experience and graduated in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree.
