Michael Redd was born on August 24, 1979, in Columbus, Ohio, to his father, James Redd, and his mother, Haji Redd. He grew up with a sister named Michelle Redd. 

He attended West High School and later went to the Ohio State University. Michael has been passionate about basketball since his high school days. 

Redd served as the offensive attacker for three years at Ohio State University, with average points of 21.9, 19.5, and 17.5, respectively.

As a sophomore, he and Scoonie Penn led Ohio State University to the NCAA Final Four. 

After his junior year, the athlete was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft.

Michael could not make an impact in his first season due to his position on the depth chart behind NBA All-Star guard Ray Allen.

However, it became clear that he was better than expected when he performed admirably in practice against Glenn Robinson, Ray Allen, and other colleagues.

After this, George Karl, the former Bucks head coach, rewarded Michael with more playing time. 

During Michael’s second NBA season, he averaged 11.4 points per game and shot 44.4 percent from the three-point range. 

On February 20, 2002, Redd set a then-NBA record by making eight three-point field goals in the fourth quarter while playing against the Houston Rockets.

Redd signed a $12 million, four-year offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks in October 2002, but the Bucks matched it, and he remained in Milwaukee.

During the 2003–04 season, Michael’s effort was rewarded with full starting responsibilities.

Eventually, he began earning averages of 21.7 points per game en route to his first and only All-Star Game participation. 

After the 2004–05 season, Michael signed a six-year, $91 million contract with the Bucks.

The next day, it was reported that he would be out for the remainder of the season. 

After 14 months off with the injury, Michael returned to the Bucks on March 28, 2011; he collected four assists on his homecoming.

The player scored his first basket since returning from injury on March 30, 2011, against the Toronto Raptors.

In the 2010–11 season, Michael appeared in ten games. The 6’6″ player had averaged 20 points per game in his 11 seasons with Milwaukee until he left.

Phoenix Suns

Michael Redd was a Team USA junior team member and competed in the 2007 FIBA Americas tournament, serving as a qualifier for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Throughout the competition, he averaged nearly 15 points each game. Additionally, Michael established the qualification record for most 3-pointers made in a single game during the team’s game against Puerto Rico.

He also broke Penny Hardaway’s record of 22 three-pointers in the tournament, setting a new mark of 28.
