Henderson State University’s junior basketball player Jamarion Brown passed away on Friday.
Jamarion Brown, a 2020 Mount Pleasant High School graduate, transferred to Henderson last season from Southwest Christian College.
He played in 30 games for Henderson last season and started in 19. He scored 195 points in all.
Jamarion was the Great American Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week in the next-to-last week of the regular season, colliding five steals in games against Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist.
He added nine rebounds across the two games, including six against Oklahoma Baptist.

Jamarion Brown, a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, tragically passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 21. However, the cause of death has not been revealed.
Henderson State men’s basketball coach Jimmy Elgas mourned Jamarion’s loss and said,
“No words can express our sadness for Jamarion’s family, friends, and teammates,” “We lift them all up in prayer. Jo’s impact was felt not only on the basketball court, but throughout the fabric of Henderson State University, and we all grieve together. His loss leaves a tremendous void on our campus, but Jo will be remembered and honored in our hearts forever.”

The HSU Athletic Department said that Brown, known as “Jo,” made an impact during his only season as a Reddie. They wrote,
“His warmth and welcoming personality made him one of the most recognizable and respected students at Henderson State among not only his peers, but by faculty and staff as well. His smile lit up a room, and his dedication and care for his friends shone through in all of his daily interactions.

Henderson State Chancellor Dr. Trey Berry also mourned Jamrion’s loss through his Facebook handle. He wrote,
“We are completely devastated by the tragic loss of this fine person, athlete, student, friend and Reddie. Jo was a leader all across our campus. You brightened our world each and every day. We will never forget you!”

Mount Pleasant High School graduate Rocky Davis also took to his Facebook handle and offered his heartfelt condolences. He wrote,
This hits alot of areas. Young ,vibrant, humble, determined ,hard worker. His personality was contagious, always had a smile and also positive vibes about life was through the roof!!!! Jamarion Brown Is Survived By His Stepfather, Bobby Wilson Sr., And His Sister, Monete Brown
Born in 2004, Jamarion Brown lived with his stepfather, Bobby Wilson Sr, who works at Wilson and Wilson Bailbond.
On the other hand, Brown’s mother has stayed out of the media spotlight, so little is known about her personal life.
Currently, Bobby is mourning the tragic death of his stepson, Jamarion Brown.
Jamarion grew up with his sister, Monete Brown, who lives in Mount Pleasant, Texas, and has been working at Pleasant Springs since March 22, 2018.
She is also mourning the tragic loss of her brother, Jamarion. Friends and relatives have also sent prayers to Monete to stay strong. One person wrote,

In addition, Jamrion is survived by his stepsister, Katara Kt Wilson, who went to Mt. Pleasant High School and studied as a medical assistant at NTCC.
