Nebraska Wrestling Icon Todd Meneely Passed Away Following a Tragic Car Accident, Leaving His Partner and 2 Sons

Todd Meneely, a wrestling coach from Omaha, Nebraska, was in a serious car accident over the weekend and sadly, lost his fight for his life.

He was a three-time NCAA Division II national champion for Nebraska-Omaha.

Todd Meneely was known as one of the Midwest’s best pound-for-pound wrestling recruits. His incredible career began at Skutt Catholic High School, and he won four Nebraska state championships.

His success continued nationally, and he was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament in Greco. He was a 9X Fargo Freestyle/Greco Cadet and Junior All-American.

Todd attended the University of Iowa before transferring to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. As a senior, he was named the 2008-09 NCAA Division 2 Wrestler Of The Year and the Outstanding Wrestler at the NWCA Division I| National Duals that year.

Afterward, he transitioned to MMA and coached at several clubs and schools. Alongside coaching, he built a career outside of sports, working full-time as a client support manager.

Todd Meneely’s Legacy Remembered After Tragic Death

Todd Meneely passed away surrounded by loved ones after a courageous fight for his life following a tragic car accident this past weekend.

He was a devoted father, son, wrestler, and deeply influential coach.

Todd was the cherished son of Sue and Jay Meneely, born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska.

He was born into a family known throughout the state for its exceptional wrestling. His father was inducted into the Nebraska Coaches Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2015.

Following in his father’s footsteps, he developed a profound love for the sport from an early age. As a competitor, he demonstrated the discipline, toughness, and heart that would later define his coaching.

He proudly worked alongside his father, assisting him at Millard South High School, until retirement.

Above all, Todd’s greatest pride and joy were his two sons, Truin and Breckin. He was a loving and supportive father whose eyes lit up when speaking of his boys.

Moreover, his commitment to family extended into the wrestling room, where he became a guiding force and a second father to countless young athletes.

Todd’s happiest moments were spent in the sweaty, gritty, sacred space of the practice room.

He taught not only technique and strategy, but also resilience, character, and the unbreakable bonds of camaraderie.

He is survived by his partner, loving sons, parents, and a vast, heartbroken extended family of wrestlers, colleagues, and friends whose lives he forever changed.

The Meneely family will soon announce a celebration of the beloved wrestling coach at a later date. His strength, laugh, and unwavering dedication will be deeply missed.
