Nicholas Alexander Castellanos was born on March 4, 1992, in Davie, Florida, to his parents, Michelle and Jorge. His younger brother, Ryan Castellanos, competed in the MiLB.
Born and raised in South Florida, Castellanos is of Cuban bloodline through his father. He went to American Heritage School but later transferred to Archbishop McCarthy High School.
At a young age, he received a call-up from The United States U-18 Baseball team. He won the gold medal with the USA in the 2009 Pan American Junior Championships.
Nick received an athletic scholarship and opted to play for the University of Miami.
Detroit Tigers drafted him as the 44th overall pick in the second round of the 2010 MLB draft, receiving a $3.35 million signing bonus- a record deal during that time.
Furthermore, Nick debuted professionally on September 1, 2013, playing the role of a left-field player.

Together, Nick and Jessica birthed a son, Otto Castellanos, on May 4, 2022. Nick’s son, Liam, from the previous marriage, also lives together with him and Jessica.
Despite not being a biological mother, Jessica showers Liam with endless love and treats him as her very own.
