Nyjah Huston started skateboarding at a young age with his dad’s help. His family owned a skate park in Davis, California, where he spent a lot of time.
He practiced with his brother; people had already recognized his skills and unique long dreadlocks by age seven.
Later, he was widely recognized for his exceptional skill and success in the sport. He even earned numerous sponsorships and substantial prize winnings.
Huston’s impressive track record includes winning gold medals at the SLS Super Crown World Championship in 2014 and from 2017 to 2019.
In addition, he has achieved 12 gold medal victories at the X Games since 2011.
Nyjah Huston Parents
Nyjah was born to his parents, Adeyemi And Kelle Huston, along with four siblings, Isha Huston, Jahmai Huston, Kiade Huston, and Ahbi Huston.
Growing up, Nyjah Huston was raised in a strict Rastafarian lifestyle by his father, who was a skateboarder himself.
Moreover, his father played an essential role in introducing him to the world of skateboarding at the young age of five.
Drawing from his own experience and passion for the sport, he guided Nyjah, laying the foundation for his skateboarding journey.
Nyjah’s career in skating was going well until his father suddenly decided to move to Puerto Rico in 2006.
Then, he faced many challenges with his sponsor, Element Skateboards, due to an unexpected move that prevented him from attending various events.
Parents Divorce
When Nyjah Huston and his family were in Puerto Rico, his parents made the decision to split up. As a result, his mother moved back to California with his siblings.
The athlete stayed with his father because he was a manager and videographer then.
A year later, Nyjah’s mom filed for divorce and won him full custody. Nyjah then moved back to California with his mother and siblings.
Father’s Controlling Behavior
Growing up with a controlling and aggressive father Nyjah also unintentionally adopted his father nature as he was accused of assaulting a man in 2017.
He even faced legal trouble because of his behavior. He pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of disturbing the peace and was subsequently sentenced to 24 months of probation.
Furthermore, in 2022, Nyjah was sued for assaulting an individual during an altercation in L.A.
However, Nyjah responded by filing a countersuit, asserting that he was the one who had been assaulted.
Charitable organization “Let It Flow”
In 2008, Nyjah Huston and his mother, Kelle Huston, established a charitable organization called “Let It Flow.”
They aimed to bring clean, safe, and easily accessible water to communities facing water scarcity.
Nyjah and Kelle began selling reusable water bottles at a local farmer’s market.
Over time, the organization expanded its efforts, and as of December 2012, the organization focuses on constructing clean-water wells, repairing non-functional wells, and establishing sanitation stations in areas where there is an urgent need for clean water.
