Patrick Hager | Childhood and Early Days

Born on September 8, 1988, German ice hockey player Patrick Hager is very private about his life. He has selectively updated his fans about his parents, though we do know his father, Anton Hager, was also an ice hockey player.

Patrick Hager’s father, born in 1962 born in Bad Aibling, Germany, played for Starbulls Rosenheim. He was a qualified ice hockey player for two decades and played for leagues like EJC-18, Junioren-BL, and represented his country throughout the years.

Starting his career early must have been the motivation to retire sooner. Although he’s retired from sportsmanship, Anton appears to support his son endlessly.

Unfortunately, Hager’s mother prefers to stay out of the media’s reach, letting her son shine with glory. The Hager family knows to stitch their tongue tight when it comes to their family.

Moreover, ice hockey must have been an integral part of Patrick Hager’s childhood, given that his father was a national player for twenty-one years.

Moreover, in one of his rare Instagram posts, Hager mentioned that he started playing ice hockey at 5.

Furthermore, during an interview, Hager revealed that he grew up around ice hockey as his father played professionally.

Besides that, there is no place to assume his upbringing. But, seeing the well-groomed guy with minimum social media presence, he must have had a wonderful outgoing childhood.

Patrick Hager | Career

We are all familiar with the phrase, “Like Father, Like Son.” It’s used in quite a few situations, but it is pretty accurate in Patrick Hager’s case.

The Hager father-son duo started their career very early in their life.

Patrick Hager’s career started in 2003 with Starbulls Rosenheim. For five years, he played in DNL, the German Junior League, and the third-class league.

 Professional Career

Aforementioned, Hager spent five years in DNL before his career took off with DEL in 2007. Moreover, within one year of joining the DEL, he celebrated his debut in the German national team.

Likewise, five years after his first fame for the penguins, he signed a contract with ERC Ingolstadt. By the way, he won the German championship in 2014 with Ingolstadt.

Hager then joined Kolner Haie as a free agent, signing a two-year contract on November 5, 2014. He played 97 games in two seasons, 2015-2017, before signing with EHC Munchen, his fourth DEL club, on May 31, 2017.

The second newcomer to the Red Bulls in 2017, he collected 106 points in 116 DEL games, making him Cologne’s most efficient scorer.

After signing the contract, Hager expressed that Munich is one of the best locations in Germany to play ice hockey. He further added that no second thoughts were involved while signing the contract and revealed it meant a lot to be back in Bavaria as a Bayer.

Likewise, Munich’s coach, Don Jackson, was ecstatic to have Hager in the Red Bulls team and shared Hager had proven his playing strength year after year consistently.

The German striker accumulated 47 points in 87 regular seasons before being named the captain of the Bulls in 2019.

Named “The Captain of Bulls” in 2019

Patrick Hager’s career leaped after his continuous success in Olympics, which we shall talk about in a while.

The Olympic silver medalist Patrick was named the new captain of the Red Bull Munchen in August 2019.

The 35 took over from Michael Wold, who retired at the end of the season. After the announcement, Hager shared that he believed he had the right amount of experience for the role.

Hager further added that he wanted to lead by example and appreciated the recognition of his teammates, who voted him as the new captain.

Patrick proudly leads his team towards success and shows no signs of slowing down. He’s played 616 games so far with 148 goals, and 209 assists in regular seasons.

International Play on Olympic Medal

As mentioned earlier, he debuted in the German National team in 2005 in U17.

Hager later participated in the 2010 IIHF World Championship as a German National men’s ice hockey team member.

From 2005 to the 2019 Winter Olympics, the German ice hockey star played 65 games, making 13 goals and recording 17 assists.

Moreover, Patrick Hager represented Germany at the 2018 IIHF World Championship and the 2018 Winter Olympics.

While in the winter Olympics at Pyeong Chang 2018, Patrick helped Germany’s journey to winning a silver medal. After the victory, Hager talked about German efficiency and added that his team was like robots on the ice.

Hager further praised his team, saying, “in any team sport, you can’t win through individuals.” He further added, “You might win a game thanks to an individual, but you don’t go all the way. Everyone stood up for each other.”

Hager also believed that they can take the spirit of PyeongChange forward to Beijing 2022 and the future Olympic Games.

Therefore, we might expect Hager with his national team to give a top-tier competition in the 2022 Olympics as he showed determination to clinch some medals this time.
