Patrick Kane: Early Life, Family, and Education

Patrick Timothy Kane II was born on November 19, 1988, to Patrick and Donna Kane in Buffalo, New York, United States. He has three younger sisters, Erica, Jessica, and Jacqueline.

His parents were highly supportive of his dream to become a professional ice hockey player. Patrick’s father took it upon himself to drive him to different hockey tryouts. 

Patrick was 14 when he started playing junior hockey for the USA Bobcats. However, he left the team to play for the Honeybaked AAA hockey club after moving to Michigan.

Kane attended Detroit Country Day School in Michigan and lived with former professional ice hockey player Pat Verbeek. Soon Kane dropped out of high school to focus on his hockey career. 

Kane played ice hockey with the Honeybaked for three years before the London Knights drafted him with the 88th overall pick in the 2004 OHL Midget Draft. 

During the 2005-06 season, Kane played for the United States U-18 ice hockey team and scored 102 points. On the other hand, he returned to play with the Knights in the 2006-07 season, scoring 145 points.

Patrick Kane: Professional Career

The Chicago Blackhawks selected Kane with the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. On July 25, 2007, he signed a three-year contract with the Blackhawks and made his NHL debut against the Minnesota Wild in October.

Patrick Kane scored the first goal of his NHL career on October 19, 2007, in a game against Colorado Avalanche.

The NHL star finished his rookie season with 72 points, and he received the Calder Memorial Trophy for the NHL Rookie of the Year on June 12, 2008. 

In the 2009 Stanley Cup playoffs, Patrick Kane scored his first hat-trick against the Vancouver Canucks.

During the 2012-13 NHL lockout, Kane went on to play 20 National League games for the Swiss ice hockey club EHC Biel-Bienne.

In the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, Kane scored a hat-trick against the Los Angeles Kings for the second time. 

The Blackhawks won the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals against the Boston Bruins, and Patrick Kane won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP.

During a game against St. Louis Blues in March 2014, Kane suffered an injury to his left leg and even missed the rest of the regular season. However, he did compete in the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs, scoring 20 points in 19 games. 

In Columbus, Ohio, Patrick Kane participated in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game on January 25, 2015. Kane also scored 64 points in the regular season, but an injury to his left clavicle caused him to miss several weeks.

He recovered from the injury sooner than expected, and he could compete in the 2015 playoffs. The Blackhawks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning to win the 2015 Stanley Cup finals.

In the 2015-16 season, Kane recorded the longest point streak by an American-born player in NHL history with 26-game points between October and December. On April 3, 2016, he became the second Blackhawks player to score 100 points in a regular season. 

Kane received the Art Ross Trophy for the highest league points and the Hart Memorial Trophy for the most valuable player in 2016.

Kane recorded his 1000th career point in a game against the Winnipeg Jets on January 19, 2020. During the 2020-2021 season, he scored the 400th goal against the Detroit Red Wings.

International Championships

Kane has participated in many international ice hockey competitions over the years. In 2006, he competed in the IIHF U18 Championships in Sweden, and the United States team returned home with a gold medal.

After that, Kane joined the United States U20 team at the 2007 World Juniors Ice Hockey Championships. Canada earned the gold medal, while the United States finished in third place. 

Additionally, Kane participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. The United States ice hockey team secured a silver medal at the competition. He competed in the Winter Olympics once again in 2014.

During the 2018 IIHF World Championship, Kane was the captain of the United States team. As a result, the United States earned a bronze medal, and Patrick Kane received the title of MVP title in the 2018 World Championship.
