Lexi Held, guard for the Phoenix Mercury, is making impressive strides in her basketball career, much to the pride of her parents.
Rookie Lexi Held scored a season-high 24 points and put the Mercury ahead 77-66 with 1:11 remaining on a deep 3-pointer against the Golden State Valkyries.
She was 7 for 15 from the field, including 4 for 9 behind the arc, and 6 for 6 at the free-throw line for the best scoring output by a rookie this season, passing Paige Bueckers’ mark of 21.
Following her fantastic gameplay, fans praised Lexi on their Twitter handle. One user wrote,
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the Phoenix Mercury did a great job adding players on margins…👍🏽 Lexi Held is the ideal “role player”. It’s not just the 3PT shooting that stands out. Screen ➡️ flare ➡️ relocate ➡️ cut ➡️ cross-cut ➡️ repeat 🔁

Lexi Held (undrafted) 2nd game in a row sets a new career best in the points category and officially holds the bragging rights for the most points this season in a game for a rookie with 24. Lead changing bucket in the clutch-talk about Phoenix rising .

Lexi Held is one of the better stories in the W. Don’t think anyone projected her as W player in college. Likewise don’t think anyone expected her to make a roster this year, let alone playing much. Then she has a game like tonight.
