Kultida Woods, the Thai-born mother of golf legend Tiger Woods, took her last breath away on February 4, 2025, at the age of 80.

The heartbreaking news came less than 12 hours after Kultida Woods was honored ahead of play in the TGL event on Tuesday.

15-time-major winning golfer Tiger Woods took to his social media to pay a heartfelt tribute to his mother, describing her as a “force of nature.” He wrote

My Mom was a force of a nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable.

She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.

In the lengthy, heartfelt eulogy, Woods credited her with his personal achievements and acknowledged that without her, none of his successes would have been possible.

Kultida was loved by many, especially her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie,” Woods added in the caption.

Woods announced her demise; however, he hasn’t cited the cause and where she took her last breath.

Known affectionately as “Tida,” she was a significant influence in Tiger’s life and career, often described as a “force of nature” by her son.

Born in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, in 1944, Kultida Punsawad moved to Bangkok as a young adult and worked as a civilian secretary for the U.S. Army base during the Vietnam War.

It was there that Kultida met her future husband, Earl Woods, a Green Beret serving in the 6th Special Forces Group.

Eventually, they fell in love, tied the knot in 1969, and moved to the United States, first living in Brooklyn, New York, before settling in Cypress, California.

His parents, father Earl Woods and mother Kultida, were happily married for 37 years until his father died in 2006 at the age of 74.

A constant presence in Tiger Woods’ life, Kultida stood by his side even when the entire world was against him during a period of scandal.

She had his back in one of his darkest times when he confessed to having engaged in multiple extramarital affairs in 2010.

To say the least, it was her support and love that helped Woods propel in his professional and personal life.

Kutilda introduced Woods to golf by taking him to a golf course in Long Beach, California, when he was just 6 years old.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show,” Woods revealed that it was his mother, Kultida, who got him into wearing the now-iconic red and black outfit combination he wore on the final day of the tournament. He said

My mom thought, being a Capricorn, that (red) was my power color, or some BS thing like that, so I end up wearing red and end up winning some golf tournaments.

Woods every so often wholeheartedly acknowledged her role in his successful career. “I didn’t do this alone,” he proudly said in a speech in 2024 while accepting the Bob Jones Award from the United States Golf Association.

He continued:

My mom doesn’t get enough credit. Everyone thought it was my dad when I went on the road, which it was, but Mom was at home. If you don’t know Mom has been there my entire life. She’s always been there through thick and thin.

Likewise, Woods attributed his career success to his parents during his acceptance speech at the 2022 World Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
