Ramon Romano Cardenas faced Naoya Inoue on Sunday, May 4, 2025, for the undisputed junior featherweight title. However, he lost the match.

The fight was stopped in the first minute of the eighth round after the two fighters displayed a gutsy performance in front of the crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Throughout the ESPN broadcast, there was continuous talk about Inoue possibly serving as the savior of the weekend if he could deliver an exciting fight.

When Inoue was asked about sharing the spotlight with other prominent fighters over the weekend, he told ESPN he was going to “fight my own fight.”

Ramon was the underdog but helped deliver an exciting fight alongside Inoue by knocking down the champion late in the second round.

The knockdown made the fight enjoyable throughout the early round, with Cardenas having a chance, but Inour proved too much by the eighth round.

Speaking after the fight, Cardenas told Boxing News that Naoya Inoue’s power is not as fearsome in the 122-lb scene, but his speed and combination punching are the greater threats.
