Reed Blankenship’s parents, Troy and Sandra Blankenship supported their son’s footballing career since day one. Troy and Sandra Blankenship have country roots, and the family owns a farm.
The Eagles’ safety, Reed Blankenship, grew up surrounded by cattle. Blankenship had to make sure to take care of the calves and make sure the baby survived.
Though it wasn’t related to football, Reed said it still helped. In an interview, Troy said there wasn’t a day he had to tell his son to hustle. Instead, he would tell his son to slow down as he gave his 100% in everything.
Only in Year 2, Blankenship has become one of the top defensive players for the Eagles. Snapped as a free agent, Blankenship’s rise in the NFL has been astounding.
In Week 1, Blankenship made a team-high 12 tackles as the Eagles defeated the Patriots. Blankenship and the two other starters of the Eagles side, James Bradberry and Kenneth Gainwell, were ruled out against the Vikings due to injuries.
But the 2023 Super Bowl finalist held on to win 34-28 against the Vikings. It isn’t entirely sure when Blankenship will return to the side, but the youngster looks to have another tremendous season.
Reed Blankenship Parents, Troy, And Sandra Blankenship
Reed Blankenship’s parents, Troy and Sandra Blankenship do not have a sporting background. The couple raised their kids in Athens, Alabama.
But Troy Blankenship doesn’t quite agree with the address given by Wikipedia and Reed’s college website. In an interview with the Inquirer, Troy said they do not live in the town, and their home is 30 minutes away from Athens.
The Blankenship family has set their address as Anderson, but even Anderson is located ten minutes away. Troy works as a designer and developer at a 3M plant, and Sandra is a former school teacher.
The family also has a farm they haven’t named, but they sell cows. During the conversation with the Inquirer, Reed said farming is his hobby, and one of his tasks during the summer break is assuring the cows are well fed.
News19 interviewed Reed’s parents after the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl. Sandra said the support from their community had been unreal, and they never thought Reed would make it this far in his footballing journey.
Troy added they were being flooded by congratulatory messages wherever they went, even when they would go to pick up groceries. Reed had gone undrafted in the 2022 Draft but received a phone call from the Phillies soon after the draft ended.
Sandra said it was emotional hearing her son say he made it to the team. Sandra and Troy hadn’t missed a single game of their son when he played for Middle Tennessee.
But they had to watch his Eagles debut from the comfort of their home in Alabama. The debut came against the Green Bay Packers, and his family didn’t expect him to start.
But the youngster had a stunning debut, and right after the game, Reed said he couldn’t wait to call his parents.
Reed Blankenship Has A Sister
Reed Blankenship doesn’t have a brother but a sister who remains away from the spotlight. He has a cousin named Jake Blankenship, and like Reed, played for West Limestone.
Jake is married to Aralie Ann Blankenship. The couple tied the knot on March 31, 2018, and are parents to a baby girl.
Jake graduated from West Limestone in 2012 and has a YouTube highlight video of his playing days uploaded in 2011. Jake and Aralie’s Facebook handle is filled with family snaps, and the family has maintained its country roots.
Troy had previously shared a family picture on his Facebook handle in 2015, but since then, there haven’t been any family photos on social media.
