There is no information about his Father. Growing up, Evans has his mother Janie around him but not his Father. Evans’s Father was imprisoned for selling drugs. Thus, he has no memory of his Father. 

Evans was born and raised in Pensacola with three siblings. His childhood was not as expected as those of others, as being from a low-income family. Janie, his mother, struggled to provide food and shelter for her children. It was tough for her to even provide for their basic needs.

Drugs and criminal activities were rising in his town, and Evans was also influenced by it. Because of these, Evans fell into the trap. He started to sell drugs under the name “slim.” 

Evans used to make a certain amount from the deals and provide for his family. It helped in fulfilling basic needs. But his job as a drug dealer did not last long as his cousin got arrested. And Evans was shocked by the event. Soon he realized that it was a risky job, and he could get imprisoned for it. 

Eventually, Evans left the job and focused on his high school. His focus shifted toward basketball during his high school days. He attended Woodham High School in Pensacola, Florida, and his journey as a basketball player started. 

Evans joined Coffeyville Community College for the first two years of college and moved to Iowa for the final two years.

College Career

Evans joined Coffeyville Community College in 1998 for two years. Then, in 2000, he transferred to Iowa University. He played in the final years of his college.

Evan got the titles of Big Ten Tournament MVP in 2001, second-team All-Big Ten in 2002, and Honorable Mention All-American in 2001 during his college days. 

Professional Career

The Seattle Supersonics picked Evans in 2002. He has the best rebounds and got in the top 10 for two seasons. Evans got the ninth position in rebounds in NBA. In 2006, his performance was not good as usual, but he could beat his teammates. 

On December 6, 2005, Evans was out of the match against New York Knicks. He was made to take a steroid test by the officials. The officials questioned Evans’s past, but he came out clean on the test. 

On February 23, 2006, Evans was exchanged to the Denver Nuggets. Nuggets gave him plenty more minutes than the Sonics.

In 2006, Evans faced an accident with Chris Kaman of the Los Angeles Clippers as he hit Kaman’s private part in an attempt to defend. There were no assault charges on Evans, but he was fined $10,000, and the accident was named flagrant foul. 

On September 10, 2007, Evans was exchanged to the Philadelphia 76ers. 

The 76ers gave Evans a power forward position in the 2007-2008 NBA season. Evans played more games in the 76ers than in the Nuggets. 

On June 9, 2009, Evans was picked by the Toronto Raptors. Unfortunately, Evans could not play for the Raptors till February 10, 2010, due to a foot injury. 

Evans was back in the game by November 24, 2010, against the Philadelphia 76ers and led the Raptors to victory, scoring his first career-high of 22 rebounds and 12 points. 

On December 22, 2011, Evans committed to a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. He played more than 56 games.

After 2012 

On July 11, 2012, Evans was picked by the Brooklyn Nets. Evans was caught in a foul play during the match against the Los Angeles Lakers on November 21, 2012. He was fined for his actions.
The Nets gave Evans a second chance in place of another injured teammate. He scored 22 points and 26 rebounds in the match against the Portland Trail Blazers on March 27. The Nets won the game with 111-93 points.

Evans’s teammate complained to the coach about his offensive end on the court. This incident left a mark on Evans’s mindset, and he took that as his inspiration. He practiced day and night to polish his offensive side on the floor.

On February 19, 2014, Evans was exchanged to the Sacramento Kings by the Brooklyn Nets.

In the 2014-15 season, Evans played 9 games for the Sacramento Kings. He displayed a great game as a center, and the team was shocked to see such a performance despite his absence in previous games. 

Evans scores 17 points and 20 rebounds against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first half. He brought hope to the team, but in the end, the Kings lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 97-85.
