The Willoughby community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 13-year-old Brody Keeper, who passed away on October 1, 2025.
Born on June 13, 2012, Brody was an eighth grader at Willoughby Middle School, where he excelled academically and participated actively in school activities.
Known for his kindness, humor, and determination, Brody was deeply loved by his family, friends, and teachers.
At school, Brody earned multiple academic awards and proudly ran on the cross-country team.
He was a talented athlete who loved soccer, baseball, and flag football. Outside of school, he found joy in being a Boy Scout, exploring nature, and spending time outdoors.
His passions included traveling, swimming, camping, fishing, and gaming—activities that brought him both peace and excitement.
Brody shared an especially close bond with his grandparents, who supported him at every event.
His family describes him as gentle, curious, and full of life—a boy whose laughter could brighten any room.
Brody’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his loving mother, Rachelle Keeper; his maternal grandparents, William and Gayle Keeper; his uncle, Branden (Lauren) Keeper; his aunt, Arianne (Armand) Mastandrea; and several cousins—Addison, Tyler, Trevor, Katherine, Summer, and Lucy.
The family expressed gratitude to the teachers, coaches, scout leaders, and friends who supported Brody throughout his life.
They also shared that Brody’s beloved pets, his cat Rocky and dog Freddie, preceded him in death—both of whom he loved dearly.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 3–8 p.m. at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Mentor, Ohio.
A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, October 8, at 9:30 a.m., with interment at Mentor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in care of Brody’s mother, Rachelle Keeper.
As news of Brody’s death spread, community members voiced grief and anger, pointing to bullying as a contributing factor.
Friends, parents, and neighbors have taken to social media demanding accountability and change.
Local resident Mary Magoun Henderson expressed heartbreak, writing:
“The bullying has to stop! Someone needs to be held accountable for this! Children need to be taught to respect others. This just breaks my heart.”
