Early Year

The New York Giants running back Ron Dayne did not only play football. While at Overbrook High School in Pine Hill, New Jersey, he was excellent at track and field.

Dayne won the 1995 New Jersey Meet of Champions, and he also excelled in the discus.

Breaking the record in 1996, he won state titles for discus and shot put. He is the 5th discus distance ever thrown by a High Schooler at 216′ 11″.

College Year

Ron’s stardom took another height when he entered the University of Wisconsin with a 270 lbs. Many doubted his ability to play tailback due to his weight and height.

When something good has to happen to you, everything falls into place. Luckily, Barry Alvarez, the Wisconsin football coach, took the risk and made Dayne play a tailback.

All four successful years, Dayne played running back. He shined like a bright star during his college year, yet he never was flashy about his success.

During Ron’s four college years, he created records that would push him further to reach the NCAA Division I-A rushing record for the total yards.

As a freshman of Wisconsin Badgers, he made 1863 yards, 1421 as a sophomore, 1325 as a junior, and 1834 as a senior. Finally, he broke all records in the final game of 1999 against Iowa.

He made a total of 6397 rushing yards in his entire college year, pulling him up to the highest rank in the history of the NCAA Division 1.

Dayne gave his best performances during Wisconsin’s bowl games. He set another record as the only player in Big Ten history to win back-to-back Rose Bowl MVPs.

In addition to that, he won the Heisman Trophy in 1999, which he considers as the most important award for him.

The NFL Career

Ron Dayne’s NFL career started when he got selected by the New York Giants in the NFL 2000 Draft.

Dayne, the powerful player, and the quick player, Tiki Barber, made the first season exciting. Then, the Giants went to play in Super Bowl XXXV.
