Rowan County Faces Backlash After A Dedicated Student-Athlete Is Benched And Left Without Explanation For Defending Herself Against Bullying

Stand tall, stand united—end bullying

A sister is speaking up after her younger sister, a straight‑A student-athlete, was unfairly benched without explanation for defending herself against relentless bullying.

According to her family, the young athlete had endured repeated bullying and harassment from peers.

But when she finally stood up for herself, the school’s response was to remove her from the competition.

Despite being a straight‑A student who rarely misses practice, she was punished instead of protected.

The consequences have not only affected her athletic journey but also highlighted broader concerns about how bullying is addressed within the county’s schools.

A Sister’s Stand Against Bullying Exposes Rowan County’s Failure to Protect a Dedicated Student-Athlete!

Summer Lawson, the student’s older sister, took to Facebook to voice her frustration and disappointment.

In her post, she wrote:

I am absolutely devastated with the amount of bullying and harassment our high school lets happen before they interfere.

She pointed out that her sister should not dread attending after‑school sports because of unchecked behavior from teammates.

Lawson criticized the coach for refusing to let her sister compete and for failing to provide any explanation, despite her sister’s consistent dedication and academic excellence.

Her message focused on accountability, urging Rowan County to “do better” in protecting students and ensuring fairness.

Many people have commented on Summer Lawson’s post, voicing strong support and frustration over the situation.

One commenter brought out their anger, saying:

I never could stand a damn bully. 😡 they better leave her alone!

Another voiced their perspective by highlighting family strength, saying,

Well they must not know your momma sweet girl … she will run thru them like a tornado if need to be but I agree it is absolutely crazy that people these days still bully specially from adults.

Likewise, the next supporter encourages the author, saying,

Keep advocating, that’s the best thing to do. People can’t handle the truth. Love you.

The above case reflects the deeper issue of accountability and protection within the school system when it comes to bullying.

By benching a straight‑A student‑athlete without explanation after she defended herself, Rowan County’s handling of the situation underscores the imbalance between discipline and justice.

Additionally, this raises questions about fairness, transparency, and the responsibility of educators to create safe environments.
